I received a letter today...
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 11:10 AM by TN al
...and I suspected that the writer had overstated his expertise in a subject. After that I started thinking about DU and the expertise that resides therein. Then I remembered some threads here that asked about where we went to college but I don't remember any threads asking what our degree were in. Then I got curious. What sort of degrees do the members of DU have? I have a BA in economics and an M.Ed.

Now I wish that I had picked differently. I have never once used my degree.
I am still thinking about completing the Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management.

38. I used mine
as an archery target and a dartboard. They do not work very well as dartboards. Hell, even when I had a fairly good job with the military industrial complex as a "mathematician" I was not using what I learned in college at all. I have now worked as a janitor for about five years. I wish my degree had been a cloth, then I could have used it to wipe down urinals. At least it would be good for something (besides brilliant posts on the internets).

16. ooh! Question--
I am majoring in gov at Harvard, and I am getting this "Certificate in Health Policy." Do you have any idea if that is useful for getting into public health/health policy grad programs?

18. Yes I think it should
And even more importantly if you want to work on health policy at the govt level when you first start out you will have more than just a simple govt background you will know a bit of the issues. Public Health is a great field it just sucks that we have Bush in office. It seems like the only Public Health the CDC is interested in now is Bioterrorism. Urrrr!

Good luck... I've met quite a number of Harvard Public Health grad students and they all seem to be nice and knowledgable. When in grad school though remember the gap between theory and reality. Sometimes professors tend to forget the reality of govt red tape and interagency issues.

17. I dropped out of high school at age 16, having stopped participating at 12
years, in 6th grade. I was working by 14 at the local flower and antique shop...

A couple times a year I would ace the important tests. Otherwise I sat in the back of class and read. I didn't do one single homework assignment in school, ever. I wasn't disruptive; wasn't popular or into drugs or drinking or partying. I just hung out.

I took lots of art and music classes, and generally liked science and history. Other than that, I couldn't see the point and nobody cared whether I lived or died really.

I "retired" from the work force at age 39, almost 6 years ago, after making bank day trading the tech boom, trading my own cash and stocks; it was like Vegas in my living room. I invested it in real estate and the "bank"is pretty darned big these days. I'm a single parent by choice, have a lively family with too many critters and fun cars and we do a lot of traveling and socializing. We have a very good life.

I'm selling this last house for 3 times what I paid for it 2 years ago, and moving to France in June.

I left home at 17 with $30 in my pocket, so all I can complain about is bush and the New Americanazis.
