5. Agreed
Thompson chose to make a statement with his death. We need to listen and act on his statement. Of course, Bushies are still trying to find out who the guy was.

2. Pour me a double Vodka
"These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush? They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill "gooks". They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are racists and hate mongers among us-they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them." Hunter S. Thompson :toast:

Philistine. Heh.

And Hunter drank Wild Turkey, so...it's appropriate. Not my favourite bourbon, but then my grandfather drank something called "Old Yellowstone" that I don't care for, either. I STILL bought a fifth of the stuff, took it to his grave, had a drink, poured one out on the ground and left the bottle.

85. As a person who couldn't ever handle the hard stuff
and as a person who can't drink beer, I'll raise my froo-froo wine glass to Hunter. May the peace that eluded you in this world come to you abundantly in the next world, Hunter.

You were far better than most of the rest of us, dude. The Bush Cartel should not have outlived you.

95. ''bar mat suprise' is the stuff you spilled while pouring drinks
Lift mat, and pour into a glass... it has EVERYTHING in it. Sometimes you have the crowd bid for it (into the tip jar!!) Other times you pay someone to drink it (especially if peppermint schnapps is in the mix).

96. OK, let's see a bottle of "Crystal". First you have to know what it is.
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 03:24 AM by Seabiscuit
Then you have to know the label. Then you have to explore versions of the label.

A stumper for the average drinker.

And a total loss on the "Annie Greensprings/Coors" types.

104. ((People*whistle*Hey)) May I please have your attention??????????
Whew Thanks Everyone :hi:

I know that a great many of us are devastated by the unexpected death of a most wonderful man, a brilliant man, a gifted writer and an American in the truest sense of the word. Already we miss Hunter Thompson deeply, even though it's hasn't fully sunk in yet and it's hard to fathom he's left the building. Personally I have admired and loved Hunter's work and wit for 30 years. To this day no other book has made me laugh as hard and as long as I did the first time I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when I was about 15 or so. That was the first book of his I ever read and just like the details of a first love that you will never forget, that book was my first experience with Hunter S. Thompson. The movie was ok but no movie could ever compare to reading his work, be it a book or an article. No movie, no actor could come close to fully capturing that simple yet highly complex essence that is none other than Hunter S. Thompson. He must be read.

I'm going to grab my copy of The Great Shark Hunt and curl up with it when I finally go to bed. No question, I am gonna miss that man, but he will always have the ability to touch me in a variety of ways for years to come (?Will Pitt are you hearing this?). To make me smile, to make me think, and to remember no matter where you are in life, no matter what it is you're doing, live life to the max and fucking have fun while you are fucking with them. He was the finest of the fine and the epitome of what it means to be the best kind of troublemaker there is. For the love of humanity and freedom and truth, Thanks Hunter :toast:

AND

To MrScorpio our gracious and most attentive bar thread host tonight, I want to Thank You for being here for us this evening, er uh, and this morning too. And I'd like to acknowledge your amazing skill and ability to cater and provide (and darn fast too) everything that was requested. Including a likeness of r.m.nixon "sic em good dog" just so HST's dog could attack his crotch one more time. It's sometimes hard to tell who hated nixon more, Thompson or his dog. heh

Damn that's one helluva "back room" ya got there;-) Um pssst you wouldn't happen to be needing a hard working, reliable cocktail waitress now would ya :-)

Remember to tip your bartender he did a damn fine job. Damn fine!

Goodnight all :boring:

123. Got this quote at Bartcop:
I adored Hunter S. Thompson. Found a quote of his that perfectly summed up my experiences in broadcasting:
"The TV business is a cruel & shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves & pimps run free, & good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
