radiohead vs. nirvana
ok, bodycount goes to nirvana. they destroyed thousands of assholes.

Nirvana Pros=slayed all shitty hair bands; embraced and gave tribute to good hair bands. Ended Warrant's career.

Nirvana Cons=Stole signature riff from Boston.

Radiohead Pros=brought the Pixies to mainstream radio; showed that DJ Shadow's techniques could be applied to a pop song.

Radiohead Cons=made stupid fuckers think that DJ Krush iso's combined with high gain guitar sounds would make them famous. Brought about the emergence of Coldplay, which, in Latin, means RipoffuckersembracingMediocrity.

Es Verdad?

Si, es verdad.

1. Dude, Nirvana

But radiohead is good.

Kurt made 4 or 5 relatively unheard of songs into super-hits instantly in one night then died a few months later... that belongs in some kind of hall of fame. (on edit: I was talking about the MTV Unplugged performance.)

5. Nirvana hands down, they changed the world
No disrespect to Radiohead they rule, but Nirvana is a far more important band.

Besides I didn't know who the Pixies or Sonic Youth were until I heard Kurt say they were the two bands that influnced him the most.

Creep is still one of the best fucking songs eva though!

2. Nirvana did change the face of music.
THough, I think my bias might be a little more towards Radiohead. I have a predilection for art/prog rock.

9. I'm new, so i can't talk shit...
but Coldplay is an abomination that steals from Billy Joel and DJ Spooky at the same time. No offense. :)

12. I do too...
but I also like how Culture Club sounds. Doesn't mean they didn't ripoff Sondheim. Karma Chameleon is fucking great, but Bach used the progression first. "Clocks" is a ripoff of a basic exercise from cherry lane music books.

Wow, I didnt' mean to cause an uproar, but even great music borrows once in a while. Chuck Berry's entire catalogue is based on the same chord progression as the Ode to Joy. That doesn't mean it's the same music.

banjos is excusing himself from the thread...

13. right
Music builds off itself. I don't think it's possible to not ever be influenced in some way by pervious generations...

15. oh, I'm getting myself ready to get my ass kicked....
but I agree.

Except with Coldplay. It's not about being influenced, it's about stealing from Elton, stealing from Massive Attack, using the yodel, and then posing as original.

shit, please understand that I'm not a contrary person by nature and I don't want a war of words cuz I'm not real bright so I'll concede--Coldplay rocks.

But Supreme Beings of Leisure? They fucking rock.

14. Nirvana
based on the fact that I like 'em more...

Though I also believe that they have had a much greater impact so far and will have a greater long-term impact, musically.

I will say that if Radiohead had only thrown in the towel after The Bends they'd be one of my favorite modern rock bands. Instead they have become, in my opinion, one of the most overrated rock bands of all time.
