Do you have something in particular to think about right before sleep?
Does anything you think of calm you down or make you pleasantly relaxed?

3. For a long time
I envisioned playing hockey. Now I envision playing golf. Does that make me as strange as it sounds?

4. I have this ongoing little fantasy that I play...
...in my mind.
I have a small starship that visits (discovers) other worlds and beings.
I imagine conflicts and resolutions with other species.
I've come up with hundreds of scenarios over the years to keep my mind entertained and restful.
Sometimes the "story" of interacting with other beings goes on for weeks....kinda' like a serial.

It works for me..

7. That's interesting!
You should write some of that down sometime. Who knows? There could be a book or two in your head somewhere.

I just read in bed until I fall asleep with a book in my hands. I remember one time that I stuck my finger in a rather large (800-900 pages or so) hardcover book to mark my place while I "rested my eyes" for a few seconds. Five hours later, I woke up with grotesquely flat purple finger. I couldn't bend it for close to an hour.

15. Thanks Blue Jay
Another little fantasy is I'm a Physicist doing experiments in a campus building involving Time experiments.
We (the staff) continue to try to send things back in time and finally decide we need to try a human being in our course of action.
I volunteer and things don't quite go as expected....
...I have to be nude for the experiment and although it does work (the time thing)...I find myself in the air about 10 feet off the ground in 1941 (the lab was on the second floor in 2003 but NOT in 1941!)
I fall on top of a campus guard who promptly arrests me and takes me to the campus jail.
The next morning I'm escorted to see the Schools Psychiatrist (I mean, falling nude on a campus guard IS rather weird!)
I can't tell her/him who I am or what has happened so I just keep quiet.
The next day I see the Psychiatrist again and slowly "open-up" to her/him in the hope that I can convince her/him that I'm not totally nuts.
Since I'm a Physicist and know things that could not have been known in 1941, I have to "walk on eggs" in my explanations.
One of the Things in the story/stories is it's December 3, 1941...5 days before pearl harbor....do I tell what I know and change history ....Maybe for the worst???
Well...anyway, I come up with a lot of scenarios in the Fantasy...
It's just pure Fun :)

23. I kind of do that too...
I read alot and what I like to do after I go to bed is think about the book I was last reading and how I would continue the story myself or how I would've ended it or continue the story past where the author ended it. Well anyway it works for me, helps to push out those ugly thoughts about Democratic loses.

6. The one thing I've noticed recently
is that my tongue has to be against my top incisors at the gumline. Why? Dunno. Evolutionary device to protect the tip of the tongue, I figure.

Can think about anything and everything and am about equally likely (or more usually unlikely) to fall asleep.

16. I read fantasy books
To distract me from the day to day reality.
I just finished reading Idlewild by Carl Sagan's son, a quick read but very interesting.

And I have the thousand page tome slowly devouring, Cleopatra's Memoirs, for backup.

All for when I am in need of a major reality break getting ready to go to sleep.

18. I have a long-standing rule that I follow religiously . . .
as soon as my head hits the pillow, I banish all negative or stressful thoughts from my head . . . I don't necessarily try to focus on any particular thing, but whenever my mind starts wandering to something other than positive thoughts, I immediately shut it down and focus on something else . . . took some practice and requires vigilance, but it usually works pretty well for me, and helps me sleep better . . .

19. Beautiful monsters of the mind
I imagine that I have a powerful arch-enemy who hates me and wants to kill me, but then he sees how beautiful and wonderful I am and falls in love with me instead and promises to keep me safe forever. :shrug: I know, it's some dumb variation of a fairy tale, but it gets me through those awful minutes between turning off the light and actually falling asleep.

20. often...
I imagine being on a swing suspended from a REALLY long rope. Either sitting or standing, but just gently flowing in really large arcs. Dunno why.... it just popped into my head years ago and has stayed there.

22. I usually think about being near water...
Some images I return to repeatedly include:

-Walking along a deserted beach at sundown;
-Lying on a flat rock beside a shaded mountain stream;
-Swimming in a clean, clear pool;
-Sitting near a window during a heavy rain.

Must have been a dolphin in a previous life. :hi:
