PHOTOS: Ugly wedding cake story!
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 07:49 PM by Bluebear

'My friend Lynda is totally cool. She is the type of person who can pick out the best stuff. The picture you see above was a photograph of a wedding cake that she wanted for her wedding.

I don't know where Lynda got the photo, but it looks pretty neat and with her colors and flowers it was going to be a smash hit. As complex as the pattern looks at first, when you really think about it, it is just a serious of straight ribbons laced together. I think the design is great.

Unfortunately, Lynda didn't consider that her baker might make some promises that she couldn't keep. In fact, it seems like Lynda's baker was more interested in Rum Cake than Wedding cake. Below is what Lynda's actual cake ended up looking like. This photo is from her ACTUAL reception. This pile of cake had to sit in front everyone during the reception. Lynda spent the first year of her marriage in the courtroom suing a drunk baker. Ouch.'

3. did she win in court ?
from the picture i really hope she did.

i think some non professionals could probably do a far better job than the cake which was made. probably not as good as the one in the picture she wanted, but something descent and nice looking.

7. Bluebear, you must stop!
I just spent an hour looking at that site and laughing! Too funny! That poor cake is just the tip of the madness at that site.

Thanks for the post!

13. Did she never see any of that bakers' other work?
Was this cake just the result of being dropped down a flight of stairs or something? Hubby commented it looked like gorillas delivered it...

I have to tell you, I was a banquet coordinator for a few years, and we did a lot of wedding receptions. I worked with any number of "cake ladies" and some were REALLY good while others were not. This one takes the prize for worst wedding cake I have EVER seen.

I saw entire cakes collapse. I saw cake ladies led out in tears after trying to set up the cakes, and I saw any number of brides go into meltdown because the wedding cake was not quite perfect. (One bride actually screamed at her cake lady because the "peach" flowers on the cake were "too F*&%ing orange"...)

One girl had a cake topper that was a Lladro Bride and Groom (I have no idea what THAT was worth) and it was so heavy it sank into the cake. I stood there and listened to that lady who had designed the cake, and I heard her explain to the bride that the cake would NOT carry that statue. I also heard the bride tell her to use it anyway.

Later, when it was a problem, the bride tried to blame me that her "priceless art" was sinking into her wedding cake. I greatly enjoyed remiding her that she'd been warned it was too heavy to use.

Weddings DO bring out "the best" in people.
