FYI: DemoTex is back in the NC mountains
The dogs and I arrived at Round Mountain about six hours ago. I pulled a 5X8 cargo trailer the 1050 miles from Dallas. I was going to rent a U-Haul, but they wanted $362 (plus tax) for five days. Overage was at $40/day. I knew I needed to make at least 3 trips with a trailer, so I bought my own. Damn good move! It is worth it to load and unload at my own convenience, not U-Hauls. I'll use the trailer for a year or so, then sell it for what I paid for it. There were no 5X8s on the used market in Dallas. Very popular trailer.

The dogs were ecstatic to be back in the mountains. Nick-the-Quick ran into the woods for over an hour. I put a bear-bell on his collar, so I could hear him the entire time. Nick is slick. Old Sirius hung around close to dad.

I'll be here for about a month before I head back to Dallas for another load. Tomorrow I'll set up my ham radio station and my main computer. I'll have a 20-meter wire up, but nothing else.

Mac

2. It was tough: Heavy rains in Mississippi yesterday and Georgia today.
I drove many miles at 40-45 mph. That's OK. Better safe. Long trip, though. Especially for the dogs. I did spend last night with my parents in Georgia.

3. BTW: All done with a broken left big toe. My whole foot is black and blue.
Nick-the-trick started barking early Sunday morning (in Dallas). I went down to let him out. I didn't turn on the stairwell light, because of Dr/Ms DemoTex. I was two steps from the bottom and thought I was at the bottom. I stepped off into pitch black dark air. I thought I'd never quit falling.

I called my radiologist brother and described the damage. Broken toe and/or foot, sez he. Probably. I'll be hobbled for weeks. Bummer! High hiking season here at Round Mountain.

5. I'm sorry, Mac!
Are you going to be able to get around okay with that? Are you going to be able to get your groceries and stuff?

6. ouch! Hope it's only the toe ...
Friend of mine (an avid hiker) cracked a foot-bone ... was limping around for the longest time in bad shoes, at that. She was lucky it didn't wreck her foot permanently! Can you get your brother to have a look at it sometime?

10. Yeah, probably.
I love it up here. I'll probably put the Dallas house back on the market in a month or so.

7. Glad you're back safely
Well, minus the toe thing. Hope that heals quickly and painlessly.

I remember you posting a pic of your new house. I'm still jealous. :) Enjoy!

11. Oh, Yes! That Euclid Ave ivey is ineluctable.
They must think Cheney still lives there.

9. Good Thinking
It beats paying the cost of a new trailer for someone else. Besides, you can use for storage of your old boat-anchors and maybe as a doghouse if you imbibe a little too much of that moonshine around your bonfires or your favorite fishing hole.
