Poll question: Favorite recording by JOHN LENNON?

To celebrate what would've been John's 63rd birthday, and to try and take our minds off the Golden State debacle, here's a little music poll for ya!

22. I forgot nothing

Because of the limited number of choices in these polls, I have to pick and choose when deciding what songs to include (and leave out).
That's why I always try to give folks the "other" option.

6. Suggest a Lennon compilation please?
I have an LP version of Shaved Fish that unfortunately is missing most of these tunes.

Anyone have any other recommendations? I'd love to see a set of all his post-Beatles material.

34. I'd go for...
"Rock and Roll" - no Beatles or Lennon songs but it's obviously where his heart really lay if you ask me. And can I just say, at the risk of being shouted down, that I really don't like "Imagine" - a few minutes of self-congratulatory and smug platitudes from a very very rich man. Unfair?

Another great Lennon comp. He had a great album titled "Rock and Roll" or something close to that. He did a bunch of old covers. It was fantastic.

8. Give Me Some Truth
I'm sick and tired of hearing things
from uptight-short sighted - narrow minded hypocrytics,

All I want is the truth,
Just gimme some truth,

I've had enough of reading things
by neurotic - psychotic-pig headed politicians,

All I want is the truth,
Just gimme some truth,

No short haired - yellow bellied
son of tricky dicky,
Is gonna mother hubbard,
Soft soap me,
With just a pocketful of hope,
Money for dope,
Money for rope,

I'm sick to death of seeing things
from tight liped - condecending -
mommies little chauvanists,

All I want is the truth,
just gimme some truth,

I've had enough watching scenes of
schizophrenic - ego - centric - paranoic -
prima - donnas,

All I want is the truth,
Just gimme some truth.

10. Also:
I've got the original recording of Me & My Monkey which is a couple tracks of John with an acoustic guitar. AWESOME! Lennon was on it!

and I love how someone described how Lennon would throw in extra measures and beats into his song phrasing, making complex songs - he did it somewhat unconsciously - he just felt it out.

23. Imagine what a beautiful song
Imagine has to be one of the greatest songs ever. Since his death, I've often thought how he might of responded to some of the events taking place in the world. I can only imagine that he would have written an appropriate song for what's going on today.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

44. My favorite. Here's the Lyrics
As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty-odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they're telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

Love
by John Lennon

Love is real, real is love
Love is feeling, feeling love
Love is wanting to be loved

Love is touch, touch is love
Love is reaching, reaching love
Love is asking to be loved

Love is you
You and me
Love is knowing
We can be

Love is free, free is love
Love is living, living love
Love is needing to be loved
