Did anyone see CBS News story about Bug Bunny "makeover"?
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 10:14 PM by chookie
According to this report, Warner Brothers is going to give classic cartoon rabbit Bugs Bunny a "makeover."

They showed the new design -- Bugs is transformed into a "crime-fighting" super rabbit, all dressed in black, with sharp incisors where his charming bucktooth used to be. Instead of his charming trickster old self, he was mean, a fighter, could fly like a rocket, and the attitude of a Green Beret

I guess Sept 11 did change everything. Can you imagine a "homeland security" Bugs Bunny?

I am not making this up.

3. They interviewed a little boy that was asked which he liked best.
He said the new Bugs looked "evil" I wish they would leave the old Bugs alone.

5. Saw it, and it sucks.
That's one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

It's like the Muppets: its target audience is little kids, and they don't need things to be "contemporary" or "hip" (as the corporate tool put it).

And I still like Bugs the way he was.

11. Who's crazy enough to change a beloved icon?
Bugs has been delighting children, and adults, since WWII.

He is a classic. He's perfect.

I know the artists at WB tweaked his form over the years, but essentially his character remained the same.

Why the HELL are they reworking him in an "extreme" image?

This is the creepiest development in secular popular culture that I can think of, even creepier than the use of iconic political rock songs to sell yuppie stuff.

7. Damn you, Falwell and Dobson!
I want the cross-dressing wabbit with the questionable sexuality back! Effin' A. Even the beloved cartoon characters of our youth are going facist. :(

8. HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT
Fuck that piece of shit impostor.

Bugs was old as dirt when I watched him, and he was just GREAT. If today's kids are too stupid to get Looney Toons, they should make something new, not turn a beloved character into an evil-looking thug.

Christ, and I thought "Space Jam" was bad. Drop Dead, Warner Brothers!

15. It's worse than you imagine
I can't get the video link I posted above to work, or I would try to get a few screenshots.

It's weird -- I can't find any more info on this by googling, or I would post still images, if available.

They've "updated" all those beloved characters -- Daffy, Sylvester, Tweety, Elmer, etc -- all in a "rad" harsh anime style.

The last really stupid thing WB did, okay, the last TWO stupid things Wb did was -- remember the "baby" Looney Toons series, with all the characters as sassy children? :puke: And then there was that stupid Space Jam.

Maybe the world has changed so much -- for the worse -- that they can't do anything new with Bugs. So why not let him remain immortal? Why kill him off by dumbing him down for the Homeland Security crowd?

13. Prediction: The "new" Bugs is going to go over about as well as
"new" Coke did.

Memo to WB: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :P

He's going to be called "Buzz Bunny." He's described as a lean, mean futuristic fightin' machine.

Unbelieveable.
