19. David Cross has a great story about Scott Stapp's assholery

He's mentioned Creed in his act ("14-year-old surburban white girl lyrics," "third worst band in the history of rock and roll," "they must get their lyrics by eavesdropping outside a junior high school girl's locker room," etc.) and finally met Stapp at a celebrity poker tournament.

Cross thought about how brutal he'd been to this guy and his band, but decided to go over and introduce himself and get it over with. He walks over to Stapp, who's sitting at one of the tables, and says, "Hi, Scott, we've never met, but I'm David Cross."

Stapp just looks up at him and says, "Yeah. Thanks for the words."

At this point, Cross is thinking, "Well, he knows. He knows." and just says something like, "Yeah, well...." and wanders off.

It's a hidden track at the end of It's Not Funny, iirc. You'd have to hear it for yourself to get the full impact, but now I can't not think of David Cross making fun of Creed whenever I hear their name mentioned.

is Mark E. Smith. By far and away the most astonishing bastard I ever had to deal with in my years in the concert industry, and that's saying a lot. While he can't compete with heavy-hitters like Simmons, Nugent and Stapp, he's surely the biggest asshole in underground rock & roll.
