OH FUCK, WE'RE ALL DOOMED!
From a local discussion board:

"...Ahnold is Governor of California.

How ****ing stupid it the US electorate that they'd choose a brain-dead celebrity with a fleeting grasp of the English language to lead the second largest state in the Union?!

And, kiss the BC film industry goodbye--Ahnold will make it nearly impossible for any jurisdiction outside California to get any feature film production.

I say again, we're all doomed..."

This is a pretty canny summary of the events of the day, from a foreigner's perspective. I'm sure the fine folks here at DU are exempt from the blanket condemnation of the Electorate.

Later all!

1. 5th largest economy in the world.
Yes, we're screwed down in the United Shitholes, "as California goes, so does the Nation."

I can't believe it, but then again, we live in a fake, plastic society were good lucks and a few lies will win you anything.

Truly, this marks a turning point for the entire Continent, yes, Mexico and Canada (as CanuckAmok pointed out) will be affected. Arnold's anti-Mexico and immigration stances will only weaken the relationships previously put in place. Watch out Canada, Cali-fornia wants the Movies back....

Certainly the Second Comming is at hand! The Second Comming! Hardly are those words out of my mouth when a vast Arnold Schwartzenager takes the California Governership. What rough beast, it's hour come at last, slouches towards Sacramento to be born....
(With apologies to Yeats)

10. good old "current" rules...
which can be changes through due process.

Another great example of GOP hypocrisy--with their anti-immigration policies, and a first-gen immigrant being given the "keys to the City"...

6. You know, the problem with Democracy...
is that you get the government you deserve. I suppose if California can survive eight years of Ronald Reagan and eight years of Pete Wilson, they can survive three years of Arnold.

But for chrissake, what were people thinking?!

11. The great thing about American democracy is that everyone can vote
