My stepdaughter is doing her first big research paper in high school. 13 pages on 19th century American radical communities, specifically Oneida & Brooks Farm. Smart kid.
However, she's using "Communistic" to describe them, and i'm telling her that "Communal" is a better word, to avoid confusion & asscociation with Marxist/Leninist Communism. She uses the term multiple times.
One of "Communistic"'s meanings in our giant dictionary that backs her up (to a degree). So she's dug her heels in, as it would "be a hassle" to replace every "Communistic" (lame excuse), and her teacher didn't say anything (lame excuse).
I'm letting it go, but I just can't help being annoyed. I hate all words that end in "istic". They're lazy & redundant.
