Poll question: Battle of the Bands: the cranberries vs. 10,000 Maniacs
Both put out some great grooves and feature strong women vocalists-Dolores O'Riordan and Natalie Merchant.

Vote your choice.

1. I hate Natalie Merchant.
The Cranberries on the basis of "Zombie" alone.

4. That dumb bitch had never heard of the Beatles
I think the song "Zombie" was a reflection on herself.

6. No question -- 10, 000 Maniacs!
I went to college in Western NY and we used to see the Maniacs before they even had an album out. I think Natalie Merchant was 17. Our college radio station supported them big time and they were in our studios all the time.

10. They're the lesser of two evils for me...
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 02:01 AM by regnaD kciN
...sure, they botched "Because the Night," but nothing they every did could compare with the fingernails-on-the-chalkboard agony of "Linger" -- a song that practically caused me to run screaming out of several establishments when it came on the Muzak.

:puke:

8. I like both
I'll pick cranberries. I saw them in concert once and it was a great show.

9. I'd like to see this battle fought with guns.
If I never again hear Natalie Merchant's affected pronounciations of words as simple as "try" (she makes is "tchy") and "truth" ("tchuth"), it'll be too soon. She also disowned their cover of Peace Train when Cat Stevens Muslified himself (though to be fair it may have been when he gave his support for the fatwa against Salman Rushdie). And the Cranberries? Dolores O'Riordan is not untalented, but she's no fun either.

Harrumph!
