I'm sure you can do it, just post whenever you feel the urge. You'll end up writing a novel that way. ;-)

12. I've been using nicorette for a year...
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 08:15 PM by DanaM
started out chewing 6-10 pieces a day (sometimes 2 at once), now only one or two. I tried to go cold turkey off the gum but couldn't yet. The generic stuff works just as well and is about 10 bucks less. Good luck to you ... the gum works if you work it (haha). Chew as much and as long as you need to kick the smoking habit...Dick Van Dyke has been "chain chewing" it for 15 years. Glad to 'see' that you are feeling better and that good things have come your way. Dana ; )

14. Good luck! Three years clean after 13 of puffing.
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 08:23 PM by tuvor
And thank GOD for Nicorette! I said screw the schedule, I'll chew when I want, and even though I had a puff or two while on the Nicorette, I ended up quitting for good about a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.

A support newsgroup was also a big help:
http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&group=alt.support.stop-smoking

ON EDIT: Sorry, for some reason, I can't get the correct link to show. Just enter "smoking" in the Google box.

18. May I Suggest Drinking Hot Tea. Gives You Something To Do With Your
hands, it's hot and steamy so you still get a warmth sensation.

Good Luck.

23. Glad to hear you are up and around
You can DO this with the stop smoking thing. I had my last smoke the night of the election when they called Ohio for the asswipe.

I used Zyban (Wellbutrin) and it helped a lot. However, even stoned on that stuff, I still had times when I would have given my left boob for one more smoke. The big thing to remember is that the cravings WILL pass, and you can fight it each time--and you WILL beat it.

I got up in the morning and told myself that I would not smoke that day. I could never really tell you about tomorrow--but the goal for me had to be one day at a time.

I'm a little over four months without smoking and I still tell myself that I will not smoke today. For me, that is the only way I can do it--I simply can't allow myself to look at it like it is something I've "lost."

I am a nicotine addict, and I will be for life. At this point I make the choice to beat it, and I will not allow myself even one puff--ever again.

Best of luck with it--and go buy some strong mints. I found that they do a great job of substituting for a smoke when you REALLY want one. A bottle of mineral water helps too. Take a big slug of it when you want a puff. That has an added bonus of helping you detox on the nicotine too.

Feel better soon, and PM me if you just want to vent--this quitting shit is no fun.

Laura

I hope it doesn't come down to a health scare for me to quit. Is there anything else out there over the counter? I don't like chewing gum.
