Ohio is going to have a casino? Cool...
Indian Tribe Plans To Build Casino In Lorain

"The Eastern Shawnee tribe and the city of Lorain have announced plans for a resort and casino.
The gaming center would be built on 28 acres that was part of the former Lorain Pellet Terminal on the Lake Erie shoreline.

"The city of Lorain needs innovative developments that attract people, dollars and excitement. This plan does exactly that," Mayor Craig Foltin said.

The city and the tribe plan to enter into an intergovernmental agreement to set up the framework to sell the part of the site for $6 million, a press release from the mayor said."

This is funny to me. The "moral majority" in Ohio have been fighting this for years because it would bring us sin and damnation, and now there is nothing they will be able to do about it. The casino will be cool, but the idea that it will piss off a lot of people is even cooler. :)

1. Lorain desperately needs something like this.
I lived out there for my first 2 years in Ohio. Not a fun place to be.

3. This could finally make Taft act on gaming.
They've been trying for years to get video poker in racetracks, to no avail, mostly because Bob Taft has moral objections. Meanwhile, gaming money flees our already broke-ass state to West Virginia. Maybe if this Lorain casino makes bank (tax-free, if it's Native-American), they'll finally get their heads out of their asses and make nicey-nice with in-state gaming ideas to compete.
