Describe the bitchiest/most assholish person you've ever known
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 12:50 AM by Bouncy Ball
and/or worked with.

Ok here goes. I once worked with this woman. She was about my age, married for a couple of years. She TOTALLY ruled her husband. If he called her cell phone, she'd answer "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT?"

Once she came to work and bitched up a storm because he was sick all night and kept waking her up "with his puking" (he had a stomach bug). She yelled at him for turning on the bathroom light, which woke her up. Didn't ask him if he was ok or do a thing to help him.

Soon enough, she got pregnant and apparently took that as license to be an even bigger bitch. For Mother's Day that year, he got her a diamond tennis bracelet and FIVE dozen roses. She came to work the next day bitching about the tennis bracelet ("HE KNEW I WANTED EMERALDS, THAT ASSHOLE") AND the flowers ("FIVE DOZEN? SHIT! I HAVE ALLERGIES AND THE JERK GETS ME 60 FREAKING ROSES!").

I would say things like "Yeah, WHAT an asshole" and she'd ignore it. Generally I didn't feel sorry for him, though, because he was an adult and he obviously got off on this kind of treatment, so who was I to say?

Then she came in one day and told us her grandmother died. We started to offer sympathies, when she blurted out "It's NO big deal, she was a huge BITCH anyway!" and my other coworker said, "Oh so it IS hereditary?"

I started to laugh so hard I had to run out of the room and into the ladies' room.

I DID truly feel sorry for her baby, though. I mean my God, to have a mother like that? No one deserves that. When she came back after maternity leave, she kept talking about how "butt ugly" the other babies in the nursery at the hospital were. By this time, I was damn sick of her and really enjoyed the time she was gone, so I said "Yeah, some bitch of a woman is probably saying the same thing about your kid right now." She practically wanted to fight after I said that, assuming I was saying her kid was ugly, when that wasn't what I was saying at all.

Shortly after that, her husband's best friend's wife died in a car accident. This guy (who lost his wife) was her husband's best man in their wedding and when her husband wanted to go be with his best friend, she pitched a fit and said he was NOT to leave her with a small baby for the weekend, that his friend would be JUST FINE without him. Dear God. Wouldn't even let him to be with his best bud after the poor guy's WIFE died in a car accident! That's when I KNEW she was just pure evil and one of the most unhappy people I had ever met.

HER best friend had a baby girl with a heart defect. When her best friend found the baby not breathing in the crib at a month old, she tried to call her husband but couldn't get through, so she called this woman, in a panic (she had already called 911). So my coworker tried to call the best friend's husband at work, got through, and said (I was standing there), "Your baby's dead." ON THE PHONE.

She would smile at your face and talk viciously about you behind your back. EVeryone. It didn't matter who you were. Even the boss' boss.

Fortunately she moved away. I heard she had a second baby, poor thing (the child).

"Biggest Bitch in the Whole Damn World."

We got into it more than a few times and I say with enduring pride that I once MADE HER CRY.

It was a proud moment for me. Anyone who acts like that needs to be reduced to tears every now and then. I was so angry when I did it, I could hardly recall what I said. Whatever it was was bad. And I really NEVER do that to people.

23. Sounds like an old client of mine.
She drove TWO consecutive assistants to depression and disability (one was hospitalized for a substantial amount of time---)

She got married at 40 -- on a gorgeous June Saturday at the beautiful church on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. At photo time afterwards, before a huge crowd of wedding guests as well as probably hundreds of passers-by (shopping on the Mag Mile), she had a screaming fit directed at her 70 year old mother, during which she shrieked, stomped her feet, and threw her bouquet on the ground.

26. Not bitchy, but also unbearable
Well, I couldn't remotely top that, but I have a nice story to tell.

My condo is part of a 52 unit block. One of the owners is in her late 50ies. She is butt ugly, wears the shabbiest clothes imaginable, day in, day out the same outfit, is as pale as a corpse and smells pretty unwashed. But she owns that condo and also studies law.

She did not agree with the protocol of the 2001 condo owners meeting (however you say that in English), so she went to court over it. She sued all other owners, did not give in to any reasoning. The judge tried to put the whole thing down, so she tried to recuse him. She produced 600 pages of paper work and hauled us all to court. Twice. Now, finally, she got right - because of a minor formality the protocol was wrong. But the judge also told her that because of another much bigger formality that she had voted for on the same meeting in 2001, all later condo owner decisions were invalid ...

Do I need to tell you that the judge was visibly happy when he got that millstone off his neck and closed the case?

28. I knew this guy once who I'll call "George W.B."
This guy was such a total asshole. He would live way outside his means, running up a huge, gigantic debt, and make all the neighbor kids pay for it -- with interest -- when they grew up. He also would pick fights with the people in other neighborhoods for no reason whatsoever, and make all the teenagers in his neighborhood go fight his battles. (He didn't fight himself.) Then, he would dirty the neighborhood water and air so bad that it made people sick, and when they complained, he just denied that he did it. He kept saying, "No, the air and water are plenty clean." He cut down all the trees in the neighborhood without permission and sold the logs. (Well, that is, he had *OTHER* people cut them down; he never did any actual work.) He also had parties at his house but excluded everyone who wasn't a Christian, saying, "Those unsaved, hell-bound barbarians will NEVER come in MY house!" It was horrible.

Your story's bad, but I don't think anyone touches this guy.

33. "he was an adult and he obviously got off on this kind of treatment"
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 11:00 AM by AuntJen
As you describe this woman, she was abusive. This man more likely was trapped into staying by fear and by the emotional wearing down and crazymaking that happens in psychological, emotional, and verbal abuse. The only part of the story that isn't textbook emotional and psychological abuse is that in this case, a woman is abusing a man. Men are abused by women and by other men every day, but we tend to make jokes about them, leave them out of the literature, leave them without counseling, without shelters, without help.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, because I'm guessing that if you knew how often "he/she gets off on that kind of treatment" is used to justify abuse, you wouldn't have said it. You seem to be a kind and sympathetic person :-) So I am just offering this thought for you.

my mother too and I could never fathom it.

But I'm sure the guy in this case was abused (at least emotionally). I didn't mean to sound uncaring about it, just frustrated at how hard it is to help people in those situations (especially men, it seems).

There are few things more frustrating than trying to reach into the crazy world and pull somebody out, especially when they are caught in pretending that their world is sane and fine. Having to leave someone you love behind living in crazy world so that you can have a normal live is also terribly hard.

34. I can't top Bouncy Ball's story
But the biggest asshole I ever knew was a fundamentalist Christian from VT in college. Aside from the moralizing, he was the most mysoginistic person I've ever met. He rejected anything that could impinge upon his manhood - i.e. healthy relationships with women, movies that didn't involve massive explosions, sentimentality, compassion, etc. He had an obsession with martial arts although he lacked any ability or patience for serious study. The guy would argue everything, for no reason, even (especially) when he was dead wrong. His stubbornness knew no bounds - nothing, whatsoever, could possibly change his mind once made up. The Jesus he worshipped was like a kick-ass warrior version. So bizarre.

This prick (a teetotaller who wound up with a fondness for shots of liquor) once went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and came back talking about all the pictures he had of the, quote, "fucking bitches showing off their tits". Nice, huh? He would condescend towards everyone around him enjoying their happily hedonistic college life (parties, sex, etc etc). The jerk, naturally, claimed that sex needed to wait for marriage. He had it in for me, especially, since as a physics major I was studying quantum mechanics - which to him was the biggest heap of bullshit ever. Not that he understood it, of course, nor appreciated the irony of him being an electrical engineering major and disavowing one of the major foundations of EE.

Why, oh why, did he ever wind up in my circle of friends? After frosh year and he no longer lived down the hall he started to drift away and hang out with other fundies who liked to kick ass for Jesus.

35. My dad's mom and my sister has her moments as well.
My mean gramma was a horrid person. She liked to interfere with the lives of others because she was a shit stirrer. She had 3 kids, My uncle, my aunt and my dad. My grampa died when my dad was 11, so he was raised mostly by her.

Gramma disliked 1 kid out of each of her kids' brood. And it was obvious. It was me (My mom told me) my cousin John's in my aunts family and my cousin Terry in my uncle's family. I don't know what John or I did to irk her so as to drawn her eternal dislike of us, but Terry's older Brother knows what Terry did.

'Mom' as she liked to be called, was lipping off to Terry's mom, and Terry (age 4 at the time) said something like "Hey We're not supposed to talk to my mom that way!" Instant Ice. Later on in the day, they were all going somewhere, and it was Terry's turn to ride in the front seat and 'Mom' stopped him. When he asked why she told him "Because we don't LIKE little boys who sass their grandmas"

My sis is a piece of work too. She tries to be nice. It just doesn't work. I had cancer and she helped some-but there was always a sigh of exasperation being held back-a bitchy edge. I asked her once if I could spend the night at her house after my biopsy (ONE NIGHT-actually less than 18 hours-they like you to be cared for after General anesthesia), and she nearly pissed herself "No no I couldn't do it! It would make me crazy!!!" Huh? You said if I needed any help...

More recently, SHE OFFERED to help me work on a business plan for a class ("That's what my degree is in," she proudly told me at the time of the offer)-I finally got her over the day before the INCOMPLETE deadline was up, and all she did was BITCH ABOUT MY COMPUTER! "I HATE this fucking version of Excel!" "FUCK I HATE this Excel" I had offered to come over to hers, and re-offered to go to her place "No NO we'll finish it HERE! GODDAMMIT I HATE YOUR Computer!" My computer is newer than hers. She 'helped' about 20 minutes-I got a D- in the class.

she's a lot like my mean gramma. I have to say-she is one person who will kick the asses of doctors in the ER to get me my maximum morphine.

38. Well..............
My "ex"-brother's wife. She is the most self-centered person I have ever encountered. She has divided my family since they married - my 'ex' brother is to have no contact with his side. It would take volumes to describe her. I do believe she has some kind of mental illness going on - but he has willingly given up his independent-thinking mind to her, so he is as much at fault. My mother overheard her say to Kevin to "tell the bitch to hang up" when she was on the phone with him once. She had no clue as to why, other than Renee wanted him off the phone. My mother was left penniless when her husband died, so my sisters and myself pitched in to help her - of course the bro and his other-half didn't. Whenever they did come to visit her - they would stop on the way - pick up burgers, etc. and then go on to Mom's house without a thought of bringing her anything.
Of course, when they got there they didn't think a thing of raiding her refrigerator to help themselves to her meager supplies.
When Mom was diagnosed with cancer and was dying - suffice it to say, they were not around as usual. When Mom did pass away - my sisters and bro were at the funeral home to make arrangements and pick out the casket when Renee told my sister to stop crying - "It wasn't the place or time to cry". I live in California - Mom was in Kansas. I chose not to go home to attend the funeral as I had just been there and said my goodbyes to her. I did not want to sit in the family area
with those two people at her services. They did not pitch in for the flower arrangement for the casket. The weekend prior to the service my husband was kind enough to take me away to Carmel. When we arrived home, there was a ranting message on my answering machine from Renee threatening me to leave her alone. She asserted that she had been receiving malicious telephone calls and blamed me. I don't know to this day if she was getting these calls or not - or if she just couldn't stand not being the center of attention during the funeral planning arrangements? Needless to say, my telephone number was changed immediately. When my older sister was dying in 2001, I called my brother to ask if he would drive to Ft. Worth to see her. She was asking for him since she hadn't seen or heard from him for over 10 years. I volunteered to pay for his hotel arrangements - he could bring the whole family. Well, you guessed it. He couldn't make it - he was too busy that weekend.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to rant. I would have never believed such people could be walking this earth if I hadn't encountered them first-hand.

40. I have a tie
My Ph.D. advisor was a psychotic woman who went out of her way to scream at the top of her lungs at everyone, regardless of the circumstances. For example, I was scheduling my first seminar for the semester on the day before Thanksgiving, when she decided to change the date for me (without consulting me) because she wanted to be out of town that day. So she went behind my back and changed the date to the day of my multivariate statistics final-possibly the hardest class I would have in my college career. When I said I needed that day free, she started screaming at me IN FRONT OF THE OTHER STUDENTS about how inflexible I was and how I didn't care about what she wanted.

That was typical of how she acted. Pretty much every morning was a screaming fit with her. She developed a terrorist procedure with her approach-"scream and run". She would literally come into the lab and yell at everyone, then run down the hallway before anyone could formulate a response. I got the worst of it usually, being her Ph.D. student and not fitting into the school's mold of how people should look (This school actually had a dress code for students, and I went out of my way to break it-hair in a ponytail, tiedye shirts, etc.). worst 4 years of my life. I still have nightmares.

The tie comes from our department secretary where I used to work. Literally she was a clone of Cruella DeVille. It literally was not possible to talk to her without her ranting on 1)how she was the most attractive woman, ever (not to be nasty, but IMO she looked like Skeletor), 2)how everyone around her, including whoever was talking to her at the time, was not as competent as she was, 3)how she was smarter than everyone else because she had 3 Master's degrees (why she was a receptionist with 3 Master's degrees she never explained), 4) how all the black people that worked there got there by cheating the system and none of them ever did any work...the list goes on and on. It got to the point where I would walk around the entire floor rather than cross in front of her desk, and I was not the only person to do that.

Once one of my co-workers got married, and Cruella wanted to throw a party for them. No problem. Well, she insisted that she get a cake from the most expensive baker in town, and when we said that the grocery store bakery was capable of baking a good cake, she threw a hissyfit about how they weren't edible, and they just weren't good enough for her tastes. Later on she came by and collected money for the cake without asking for a target amount. I put in $5. After she collected money, she then went out and bought the expensive cake on her own discretion, then came back and told us that it cost more than she had collected, so we owed her more money. When I refused to give her more money, she wrote an email to the division chief trying to get me in trouble for complaining.

She harrassed everyone who came into the office. she actually hit one of the IT people once. None of us could believe that she was being kept on, and the real reason was that she was doing a lot of the chief's duties that he didn't want to do (and morale wasn't something he really cared about anyway). She finally got canned when she went to the Assistant Director and started off on how everyone in the division was incompetent but her. After that, she got a police escort out of the building. She then tried to sue for wrongful termionation.

And that you were working on a PhD just makes it worse. I was wincing all the time I was reading that.

48. Why didn't you change advisors?!?
There was a prof in my dept. who yelled a lot. He was also hard of hearing, which mildly excused it. I couldn't really stand him for anything more than hellos in the hallway. Nothing on the scale of the lunatic you describe though.

Why didn't you just change advisor?? Was it a funding issue?

50. My Psychotic Bitch of A Boss. . .
who absolutely had to have mental problems because there was no other explanation for her behavior. I'd love to say something positive about female bosses but I've worked for two who were doozies.

None was worse than Psycho Boss #1 who was a company VP. She had only a high school degree but who had leveraged a long-term affair with the President of the Company into a VP position. By the time I worked for her, she was in her mid-50's, going through menopause and had gained like 50 pounds.

All of the rest of the women in the department were younger, by years, and all of us had college degrees. And that didn't make her happy in the least--her looks were rapidly going and the President who'd promoted her to the top had long since moved on and she was in over her head and no longer could use her looks to score points the way she once had. And God knows she didn't have a clue as to what she was supposed to be doing. She barely knew how to turn on her computer. That could probably explain why she'd show up two hours late every day, take two hours for lunch, and leave as early as possible ("I have an appointment" was her favorite phrase.) She'd throw off a pile of work onto one of our desks as she departed, "Have that done for me by tomorrow morning." Of course, she always presented the work as having been done by herself to our Big Boss, never by any of us "underlings".

I once saw her claim credit for a lengthy report that I'd slaved over. "I was up til midnight working on that." she said with me standing right there next to her. Uh, no, bitch, that would be me who worked the entire frigging weekend to save your sorry ass on that one.

She would call one of us up each morning on her way to work and tell us the most minute details of her life--what she had for dinner the night before, what she had just purchased for her perfect house, her perfect husband (who mysteriously lived and worked three states away), her perfect daughter, her perfect grandchild, etc. And this kept up for an entire hour on her commute in each and every morning because she just couldn't stand to be "alone" while she was driving. Gee, you think the voices in her head would have kept her company.
And this wasn't friendly chatty talk, it was an hour long assault on "Look how much superior I am than you and how much money I make and you don't." "You wouldn't know about this restaurant--you could never afford to eat there, but let me tell you what you're missing. . . " "I know you couldn't possibly begin to ever afford to shop at this boutique but I just brought the cutest little outfit there."

Usually she holed up in her office but at least once a day, she'd venture out, and chose one of us to come over to and find something to justify launching into a screaming fit about. It could be that one of us made the mistake of having a "messy" desk. We had to be sure that every single thing was off of our workspace and put away in a drawer or shelf every single night before we went home.

We were stupid, worthless--how any college gave any of us degrees was beyond her. I'll never forget the time our computers crashed and I had to type out a schedule for her on a manual typewriter that must have been from 1910 and she berated me for 20 minutes because I'd made two mistakes and had corrected them with liquid paper. "It's messy. I abhor messiness." she screamed at me. I was incompetent, stupid, you get the general drift.

I made the mistake of talking to another VP in the hall one day and when I returned to my area, she went off on me, "Do you know who you are dealing with? How dare you plot against me?" For the record, the other VP and I were talking about our dogs-we owned the same breed. I know the Bitch Boss was a cat person--but damn--this warranted threatening me with my job for???

I was dating a guy at the time who came from a pretty wealthy family. His Dad had brought an entire table at this prestigious society event thing and the boyfriend and I went as his guests. Well, she happened to be in attendance too (at a lesser table, I might add), and she saw me there. The next morning she was waiting in prey for me. "What in the hell do you think you're doing? Who told you that you had the right to go to that dinner? Who the hell do you think you are? What a joke--I can't believe they even let you in the door." She took what had been a perfectly enjoyable night for me and turned it into a bitter memory.

I finally just resigned. I didn't have a new job to go to either--I just wanted out of that hellhole. Two previous employees had nervous breakdowns while working under this shrew. Finally, after no less than three employees filed suit or labor board complaints against her, the board finally fired her, but that was at least two years after I had left.

I'll admit that nearly 15 years later, I often think about her and would love to call her up and let her have it. I just didn't have the guts then that I do know to stand up to her, and even then, as terrified of her as I was, I recognized she was far from mentally stable.

And working for her taught me a lot about how never to treat anyone else. So maybe I gained something valuable from the experience after all. Well, that and the names of restaurants and boutiques and social events that I "couldn't possibly afford". Her forecasts for my future chances for success proved to be very wrong! What a piece of work she was though.

Oh--and one last thing--a major REPUBLICAN. Big Bush the Elder Supporter.

49. Wow. Crazy stories there. Question to mental health experts.....
This reminds me of a similar thread in the Lounge a few months ago called "Have you ever known a complete sociopath?"

Would any of these assholes that have been described here qualify, from a clinical point of view, as textbook sociopaths or psychopaths? I'd be very curious to know how they would be diagnosed by a mental health professional.
