"The Breakfast Club" came out 20 years ago this month.

I saw it on a first date on February 17, 1985.

Here are my predictions for the characters:

Bender: the criminal. He manages to graduate from high school then kind of floats around for a few years, working odd jobs, before he takes a writing seminar strictly out of curiosity and boredom and discovers his passion. He wrote a couple of screenplays, then got his first novel published, decided to move from Chicago to New York, where he is living with his girlfriend of five years. They have no plans to marry and they aren't that interested in kids.

Claire, the princess: She went to Wellesley College, got a degree in Art History, got married to an engineer, moved to Highland Park, Illinois, had two boys. They divorced after five years. She has been remarried and divorced two more times since then. She mostly takes cruises for older single people. Her two boys are teenagers. She's "just a little" addicted to prescription pills. Nothing she can't handle or anything.

The Crazy Girl (what was her name???). She ended up going to Harvard on a scholarship, got a degree in Biology, got a PhD at Stanford and works in zoological research. She's happily married with one daughter. She's a way better parent than hers were.

The Jock: He went to the University of Illinois on a wrestling scholarship, which he lost in his sophomore year. Dropped out. Works for a car dealership. Mildly happy. Has three daughters who are the light of his life, is divorced. Dates a bit here and there, wistful for his high school days.

The Nerd: Went to MIT, of course. Flew through. While working on his PhD, had a nervous breakdown, never finished his dissertation. Much happier after he quit school. Was engaged once, but it was broken off. Works in the private sector.

One of my favorite lines.

If one of my high school students ever got up out of their seat, I'd bust out that line and the kids would look at me like "HUH?"

It made me feel really old.

5. My predictions.

Bender: became a robot through a process of reverse-reverse fossilization.

Claire: become a school librarian. Married closeted gay republican politician.

Crazy girl: ended up falling for some abusive husband. Now divorced. Five kids.

The Jock: Became closeted gay republican politician. Hits wife.

The Nerd: Went home after saturday suspension, went through with suicide.

(My new phrase I am just randomly blurting out while in casual conversation with repukes is "hot gay republican sex!" which immediately makes them ask what I'm talking about and I'm nore than happy to tell them.)
