The people at Residence Life are fucking assholes...
or idiots, or even both. Here's my situation. My college was building new townhouses to alleviate overcrowding but because their contractors were a bunch of crooks, they weren't finished at the start of the school year. So they were going to put up all of the residents in a hotel (20 miles off campus!) until the first phase was complete and then double all the students until the second phase was complete (which was scheduled for November, then January now sometime in August, which means we are stuck doubled for the rest of the year). So anyway we had an option to temporarily commute until phase 1 was complete (as opposed to staying in hotels) and they would give us back $26 a day for our troubles. Well I had a friend on campus who let me crash at her place. So I go down to the res life office and I talk to the guy in charge and I tell him that I want to commute until I can move into my place, he says ok and I sign a paper that will re-reimburse me my $26 a day. I go about my business for the next 2 weeks and it is move-in day for the townhouses. I go to my RA she sees my name on the residence list, I sign all the check in papers and get my key. And life goes on. Well in December I get a check in the mail for $2,800 which was listed as a financial aid re-imbursement...score because it was Christmas time. Again life goes on...Cut to two days ago when my dad gets a $4,400 bill in the mail!

Normally with financial aid and student loans, the bill should only come out to about $2,500. So my dad calls the school to get to the bottom of this and after being bounced around to 3 offices we basically surmise that somehow I was kicked off the resident list and am now a commuter...the $2,800 check was a refund of my fall semester housing (which is wrong anyway because it costs 2,800 a semester to live there, but we don't pay 2,800, just a percent of that because financial aid takes care of some)...somewhere along the way I had gotten a $1,300 credit on my account because the full bill would have been somewhere in the ballpark of $6,000. And to top it off the Res life guy that my dad talked to basically implied that we were somehow scamming the school and trying to live there for free. He was a total prick to my dad!

But somehow this bill is way wrong. Ok we have to pay back the 2,800 but that still means that we would owe the school $4,400!?! I don't think they are taking my financial aid or loans into account when they wrote the bill or something. Hopefully next week we can get to the bottom of this mess because it appears between Res Life, the bursar and financial aid...the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing over there.

It just pisses me off that because of their clerical error, the asshole at res life implied that I was a crook! What fucking nerve...it's a good thing that I didn't talk to the guy cause I would have went off on the guy, and that wouldn't have been very productive at all!

One more thing, because the residents of the townhouse basically stormed the dean's office we are now supposed to get half of our housing costs for the year back at the end of this semester (roughly 2,800 anyway) I realize this wouldn't be factored into my bill because they have not cut the checks for that yet, but it was just one of those cool "power to the people" asides that we students were able to accomplish!
