I don't care if Clinton Eastwood is a republican - he's still talented
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 03:42 AM by fujiyama
I saw Mystic River and I think he did a great job directing it (what are the other good films he directed?). I've never actually seen any of his acted films so I have no idea how he is as an actor.

I know some people here thought he was a violent freeper type for "threatening" Michael Moore, but if anyone has seen Eastwood being interviewed anywhere, that's just his attitude.

The reason I don't think the Moore thing was serious was because I saw him on Leno and he had a similar reaction to something Leno said.

Leno was telling Eastwood that his daughter was beautiful and Eastwood's immediate reaction was "Stay away from her". He said it in a very matter of fact way. It was a cold but still humorous way of going about it.

1. it was clearly a joke with Moore
Eastwood is a Republican but he isn't the putrid type.

he is also getting a lot of crap from right wingers on his new movie so they are alienating one of the few talented artists/entertainers that is from the Republican Party.

and he is so good that it's worth putting aside political differences to watch his movies.

3. I have never heard him make overtly political statements
And I could really care less who he votes for. That is his business.

I watch his movies because he is very talented actor and director. Some of his films are among my all time favorites---Dirty Harry, Unforgiven, Mystic River, For a Few Dollars More, The Outlaw Josey Wales and many more.

He is among my all time favorite actors and directors.
He does not seem like a putrid type Republican, but more along the lines of a relativly moderate conservative.
He is entitled to his views, and they in no way detract from his genius as an actor/director.

2. He didn't threaten Moore
it was a joke, period.

I think Clint Eastwood is one of the best actors and directors out there, period. I love most of his films, from Dirty Harry to the Good, the bad and the Ugly to Unforgiven.
I could care less who he votes for.
He doesn't campaign for Republicans and I have never heard him make any overtly political remarks in public.

4. I think he's a Libertarian
Clint and a few other Repub celebrities, including Kurt Russell, left the GOP to join the Libertarians after Bushco took over the Repug party. Saw it in an article somewhere, but don't remember where.

5. Good
But I think generally, the Libertarian Party have very poor domestic policy---other than their ending the "war on Drugs"
They are pure laissez faire, free market economically---a position Very, very far from my left-leaning New Deal style populism.

6. Ah
That's good to know.

Both Russel and Eastwood seem pretty cool. It's good to know they don't support this regime. Libertarians aren't fascists. I think they're wrong on economic policy, but I can respect their views.

Eastwood had two outspoken liberals in Mystic River at a time when Penn, especially was getting ripped by the likes of Fox News, etc.

8. Echoes of "Escape from Los Angeles"
If you saw that movie, you'll agree there was an eerily prescient Dubya character there.

I knew Snake Plissen would NEVER shill for Bushco!

9. Here's a site
with a list of people who are supposedly libertarians. Probably not 100% correct though, because people like Michelle Malkintent and Drew Carey are on it.

7. He has a very dry sense of humor, he was just teasing Moore
Other great films he's directed:

Play Misty For Me
The Outlaw Josey Wales
UNFORGIVEN (the quintessential revisionist Western)
Bird
Branco Billy

Performance-wise, I'd say his best work is Million Dollar Baby and UNFORGIVEN.
