2. And waste precious calories getting up and walking 20 feet?
Are you mad?

Besides. Someone else might eat up the entire tray of meatloaf and fried chicken and you'll be forced to have the spaghetti that's been sitting under the heat lamp for 8 hours.

5. The freaks lose control
I go to an all you can eat Japanese/sushi place occasionally and I never fail to see a few of these losers. They also tend to be the pushy ones. I think they just lose it at the sight of all the food that can be had.

7. The all you can eat Japanese joint I go to does not favor this neurosis

You are given a piece of paper with the various foods (many copies actually). You check boxes. You give paper to waitress. You wait. You eat. You pick another paper and fill some more boxes. Rinse. Repeat.

Very relaxing actually, but don't go there if you're in a hurry.

Oh, by the way, it costs US$10. Ain't Brazil grand?

Edit: typo that made me sound Italian.

9. That's what I liked about the Rodizios
They brought the meat around to you.

It wasn't trough style dining.

12. We have the following kind of rodízios here:
Meat
Pizza
Pasta (includes pizza, but not as good as the pizza-only ones)
Japanese+Chinese
Seafood

Some places have a combination of the above. There's also an uncategorizable rodízio near where I live which serves chicken and pasta in a supposedly Italian fashion. Very very good.

I may have forgotten some.

6. It's the "Eyes are bigger than your stomach" phenomenon
Remember, once upon a time, our primitive ancestors had no guarantee of when their next meal would be.

Consequently, we're wired with an urge to load up when we see a mountain of food in front of us.

8. I think you've given the right answer
I find myself doing the same. One of the people I used to work with was a large man and when he told his doctor he liked to go to that sort of place, his doctor remarked, "Did you notice the size of the people who go there?" I'm too large myself, so I don't go often, but still find I have to make a conscious effort not to overload my plate. (Oddly enough, the food I take the most of is salads. Go figure.)

Only possible explanation. No, I'm not envious. What made you think so?

13. I hate hopping up and down while trying to eat
So, yes, I pile it high. I know I'm hated for it, but I have a fast metabolism and I need the calories.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

15. I am that guy. Sorry
When I see a mountain of food, and it's all food I like I just seem to let a bit of everything find it's way onto my plate

I am very bad at all you can eat places---I want a lot of everything.

16. If you are dining with others
You don't want to have to leave the table several times during the meal. Some people have had a lot of experiences with pot lucks also where the most popular items might be gone by the time they get up for seconds. When I ate a lot as a teenage runner, I got as much food as possible on my plate also.
