:wtf: I though he was in jail.

"Bordeaux" Joe Ganim.

Judge delivers a civics lesson and a nine-year sentence for Ganim

Bully for Joe Ganim the man! Forget the convictions on 16 counts of a 22-count federal indictment, forget prison. With all these good works, he should, at the very least, be beatified. But how about Joe Ganim the politician?

Well, there's no doubt that Bridgeport has become a better place than it was when Ganim found it 12 years ago. Meehan mentioned good things such as balanced budgets, improved infrastructure, a couple of sports facilities and a lot fewer shootings as positive changes that occurred under Ganim's watch.

But, as Judge Janet Bond Arterton correctly pointed out last week before sentencing Ganim to nine years in federal prison, that's the kind of stuff a good mayor should do. She seemed to feel that one should not get points for not thoroughly destroying or even significantly improving a city while fleecing it.

"I've concluded that what Joe Ganim did for the good of Bridgeport really is not to be considered as a factor in the sentencing of a corruption case because that's what a good mayor does," she said before launching into a pointed civics lesson that all but blamed Ganim for the collapse of public faith in government and the unraveling of the American democratic experiment.
