Poll question: What is the best of the cheap-ass beer?
I'm talking beer you can get for less than three bucks a 12 pack. Beer that exists for one purpose only, to get you hammered. What do you like?

It was also the first time I ever blacked out from drinking. I stuck with Beast after I got older, at a buck and a quarter a six pack, you couldn't go wrong...

I bring some really good beer (Saranac lager, from Utica, NY) when I'm down there, and he still drinks Beast. Go figure.

The good cheap beer in New York State: Genessee and Utica Club.

I don't even remember the price of a 40 (circa 1990-93), but I know it was under $2. You're broke, so you take back returnables or sell back a shitty CD for $4, get a couple 40's of Mickeys and you're all set for a night of drinkin. Mickeys was defnintely the malt liquor of choice when I was in college.

Preferably Lost Lake Ice. I think it's made in Minnesota, but down here in Oklahoma I can get it for about the same price as a 12-pack of the Beast, and it has the added advantage of being 6-point. Beer sold in grocery stores here is all 3.2, which makes cheap beer even worse.

55. I used to think Stroh's was good
But that was quite a while back and I think they've changed hands a couple of times since then. Don't think I've had one in 20 years.

Somewhat more recently, I was partial to Berghoff's. I don't see it around here anymore, but had a couple in Wisconsin about 18 months ago. They were OK.

Around 1980, for a while we used to be able to get a six of Blatz Cream Ale at a local bar for 87 cents. Being sold in green bottles, it was a bit skunked, but uneducated as I was, I thought that was the exotic "good beer" taste. (Rolling Rock had the same kind of appeal at the time, as I remember.)

Then I got hold of my first bottles of Sheaf Stout and Boulder Porter and the world changed....

And I still remember my first swill of it. 1969, having lunch with some of my high school buddies during 'Indian Summer' right after graduation, talking about the death of a friend in Viet Nam who had graduated the year before and enlisted. Liverwurst and onions on a roll, pickle, Pabst, and a toast to his memories. :toast:

iron city beer, drinkable only at the 32F since at that temperature most of your taste buds are numbed and one can not taste the incredibly nasty flavor of the iron filings.
