I can hardly read the paper or watch the news because of Bush
Since the election I have been very down. But since Bush has targeted Social Security for destruction, our most successful progressive program, and released his awful, heinous 2005 budget plan I have been so angered that I'm afraid my blood pressure will become a problem every time I think about it.

Every time he comes out with a new plan, it is going to make everything worse

This is the worst President we could have had at this point in history

1. I think he overreached himself on SS - he won't succeed there imo
I have stopped watching any news on TV, though. Too upsetting, I agree.

3. hopefully
I think this attempt to destroy social security will cost the GOP millions of votes.

I cannot imagine it passing, even by congressmen who agree with it in theory, because of the 2 trillion dollar price tag that will come with changing the system

4. I can no longer read a newspaper or watch TV "news".
I don't even listen to news on the radio in my truck. For me, it's strictly old movies, music, and documentaries, etc. I'm so totally disgusted with the "media" in the US. They stink to high heaven! (If I was a lot younger I would move to a more progressive country like Canada.)

So, I get all of my news at DU. Thank God for that!

:D

5. Don't move
we need every liberal and progressive voter we have to turn the tide. By running, you are only helping Bush and Co. win. They want us to leave.

Remember, in 2000 we had a majority in the Senate and Al Gore won the election.

Besides, I've got my big fat and reliable social security check coming in shortly.

9. But how much longer can he get away with it?
I mean, I keep waiting for the rest of the country to wake up and realize the enormity of his evil and stupidity. What does it take?

It reminds me of an old, old Doonesbury where the congressional committee was discussing Nixon and saying things like, "How can we not vote to impeach - destruction of evidence, stonewalling, enemies lists?" And then someone says, "If only he's knock over a bank." And the other guy replies, "By god, then we'd have him."

Does Shrub have to knock over a bank for them to see????

10. At the very least.
Or get caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.

Or both. After robbing the bank.

Too many zombies and kool-aid drinkers out there in this country.

It's sad.

Reality Sucks.

12. I'm starting to think
That if you get elected President and want to do anything you want - all you have to do it start a war, keep "the people" whipped into a "fear/support the troops" frenzy and then you could pretty much get away w/ murder.

15. Millions of people in the USSR loved Stalin
no joke. He was adored by millions. At his funeral tens of thousands of people wept real tears. People acted like a member of their family had died.
Millions in Germany loved Hitler and would have died for him. It took the destruction of Germany and the loss of the war and the fact that it was no longer ok to love Hitler that changed peoples minds. These people went from being committed Nazis to being people who had never even met a Nazi

14. A lot of people know the truth in their hearts
but just do not want to admit it

In the Soviet Union, millions of people mourned the death of Joseph Stalin, the man who had terrorized and savaged their country for decades.

And remember, the GOP has an army of disinformation agents to go around and push their propaganda

16. People believe what they want to believe
many people want to believe that they weren't fooled, they weren't lied to and everything's ok.

The GOP is a very skilled propaganda disseminator. Just like millions were fooled into loving Stalin, Hitler and many other horrible leaders throughout history, it will happen here to.

17. I tell you Zuni my personality has changed because of that asshole
the sheer incompetence and arrogance - just when you think it can't get worse they never fail to do just that. And ya know, I no longer think it cannot get worse. What is killing me now is how many people actually cannot see these people for what they are - I feel like my America is disappearing before my eyes.

19. and it's a long, slow painful slide
I just posted a thread questioning what would have happened if Clinton had used someone like Gannon, if the Clinton White House had been caught using taxpayer money to prmote propaganda. THIS IS A SERIOUS, SERIOUS SCANDAL which should be all over the news 24x7. WHERE is my beloved America? I tell you I never thought I'd see the day when PRAVDA had more credibility than the press in America. I am sickened beyond BELIEF.

20. I couldn't agree more.
I also wonder where the press was during the 2000 campaign. Can you imagine if Hillary had run a stop sign and killed someone? And there had been no repercussions? We would still be reverberating from that.

Laura Welch Bush gets a free pass on the law? Where is the justice? Where is the "liberal" media?

21. Amen, although the slide has been fast
Bush did more damage to the US than Nixon and Reagan combined already, and he still has 4 years left

Bush makes Nixon seem ethical and Reagan seem like a genius

Even Reagan did not have the nerve to attack Social Security! Nixon did not bribe journalists

at least we could rely on the media to report on Nixon---it was the media that brought him down and spearheaded the Watergate investigation!
Now with Fox news and RW attack machine and bribed journalists (not to mention WND and Talon 'News' being in the WH Press Corps), the American public is being fed a contrived mess of garbage

I can't enjoy a single solitary thing life has to offer because I am always pissed off and waiting for the other shoe to drop! I can't take this much longer and I was so hoping that Kerry's election would bring some much needed relief to me and 100s of millions around the World..........but nooooooooo! The rethuglicans stole another election and so my pissed-offness continues. :grr:

23. That's how I feel too.
I feel like I'm watching it, but not a part of it. Sometimes it doesn't even seem real - like I'm watching life on t.v. or something.

24. So you'd really rather be uninformed? I doubt it.
Cheer up...we have had presidents as bad before, and survived it.

Personally, I can't abide all this doom and gloom, "the sky is falling" stuff. Yeah, it's bad...but it has been much, much worse in our past national history, and we are still here.

The personal key to me is balance in life. I try not to let politics grow to the point where it is this huge weight I have to lug around with me. I try to keep it in proportion to the rest of my life. I guess that's why I recovered quicker than many of my Dem friends after the elex loss. I try to keep perspective. The pendulum will swing.

Meanwhile, I have adapted in my life and in my finances to what I see as political reality for now. And I try not to forget to hug my dogs and feed the birds everyday.

25. I have just been down lately
I feel my blood pressure gets too high. This new budget is the last straw.

I am not usually a sky is falling kind of guy but things have gotten worse and worse
This budget proposal and the assault on SS are making it seem like the Bush administration is really going to destroy everything progressive in the government
