Poll question: Should I cut my hair?
I have really long naturally curly hair, and it really is a pain in the ass when it gets really long. I've always had it long, its at the middle of my back, and I'm think of cutting it shoulder length.

Should I?

9. I would never. I scratched off all the chicken pox on my head
because they didn't show. I can only imagine how funny it would look to be bald covered in chicken pox scars.LOL

2. I Prefer Long Hair, But...
as far as I'm concerned, shoulder-length hair is not too different from hair halfway down the back. The visual effect is about the same.

Hair shorter than that (for example, a pixie cut) works for some women but not for many others.

Shoulder-length is not short. I am a guy who has shorter curly hair, and I can't imagine trying to control it if it were that long.

4. just remember - it will grow back
If you don't like it, you can always grow it back. I'm always thrilled with how much less shampoo I use after a hair cut, how much less time it takes to blow dry...

6. I just cut mine short
Short hair makes me feel powerful and full of attitude. I guess I'm the the reverse of Samson.

Several people have commented how my new hairdo makes me look younger.

7. I'm in the same boat as you
Naturally curly, thick hair. It's a pain when it gets long and heavy and doesn't curl up like it should. I want to cut mine, but all my friends whine and say not too because they love it long. I wish they'd come wash and fix it for me then.

I think you should cut it. I'm cutting mine in early March right before our state J/J dinner.

Go for it. :)

11. go for it.
I love having short hair. I don't have curly hair, it's very straight and fine so long doesn't look good on me anyway, but I went from a shoulder length cut to short years ago and I love it. It's easier, cooler in the summer, and if you get the right cut, quite feminine. You might decide next to go from shoulder length to short!

And, it will always grow back. Don't stay in a rut just because others think you should!

12. Personally, I'm a big fan of long hair.

It really depends on the person, too. But, when you add it all up, I'd still say I run about 90-10 in favor of "long" :)

Only 'cause I am a guy who tends to like long hair on girls. However, I also know where you're coming from; I used to have long hair myself (not super long, but an inch or so below my shoulders) and know how much of a hassle it can be. (Mine wasn't curly, but mostly straight with a slight, obnoxious wave that causes it to do all manner of interesting things!)

It's totally up to you and what feels right to you. I'd weigh what's more important to you: how much better you think you look with long hair vs. short hair and how much the hassle of keeping it long matters to you. Like others have said, there are plenty of women who look just as good with short hair, so cutting it may be an easy decision to make. But I think you should base it most on how you think it looks better yourself instead of what guys think. I figure (perhaps incorrectly) that the majority of girls like guys to have neat, short hair, but I can't stand having mine like that...

So yeah, that's my rather convoluted take on the matter. :-)

I havent even reached shoulder length yet and its already irritating me... I cant imagine how much effort it takes to have hair as long as yours.

22. It's wierd when you first grow it
I got mine down to about shoulder length, it is certainly harder than 'normal' male-length hair.

I found conditioner then (which I'd never needed before), and now can't cope without out it (even though I'm back to short).

17. Never!
Mine is long, thick and curly. When it was short several decades ago, I looked like Little Orphan Annie. I will never cut it short again.

Besides, on bad hair days, you can braid it, put it up on top of your head or whatever.

18. As a guy who prefers slightly longer hair...
It doesn't need to be halfway down your back to be sexy. Just long enough that it touches your shoulder is quite nice. It's nice if it's long enough to have a choice to wear it up or down, but not so long that you spend half your life drying and styling it.

Short hair can be cute too, if you have the kind of face and head to pull it off.

19. Just think of it this way...
It'll still be long enough to get the girls or guys who like long hair on dudes. PLUS, it'll be more healthy and manageable. The benefits are 100%.

20. Wear your hair however it looks best on you...not because
"guys like long hair." Even if guys like long hair, they'll like it less on you if you don't look as good in long hair as short. Second, you'll be in danger of spending the rest of your life doing things that you think others like, rather than doing things that YOU like.

I'm female, and I think that generally speaking, long hair looks best. To wear short short hair, you need: (1) small body frame - pixieish; (2) great facial bone structure; (3) not overweight; (4) preferably light colored hair, although SOMETIMES dark hair will get by (dark hair is more masculine, so short short hair that is also dark CAN sometimes look butch); (5) medium to large sized head (yes...size of the head matters, when compared with size of the body, since cropping your hair short short makes your head look even smaller); (6) short in height is best, but medium in height at most - definitely not tall.

For shoulder length hair - well, that's long enough for guys to still think of as feminine, since you're concerned with that. And shoulder length hair frames the face better, so if you have a full face, shoulder length hair might look better.

Last - age. If you're young, best to keep it long, since you have many years after you're older when you'll be keeping your hair shorter.

21. As someone who had uber long hair... cut it off if it's a pain.
It will grow back if you hate it. :)

And just a thought, depending on how much you decide to cut off, you could donate it to Locks of Love. :)

25. I'd try something new...
particularly if you've had it long forever. If it's really curly, though, it might friz outta control short, no?

I used to be a big advocate for long hair, but now I can go either way.

I did and I love my short hair. I had a pixie cut and currently, it is in a short bob. Long hair, while pretty, is a pain in the arse. And if the "guys' dont like it, well, who needs em?
