The Superbowl commercials sucked this year.....
most lacked creativity. The element of surprise and the fun was carved out. Ain't it great to be 'politically correct'. I bet that next year - Superbowl viewing will be down - if this trend continues.

The Simpsons afterbowl program was the best thing of the evening. It poked fun at the Evangelicals, Fundies, Ashcroft, etc. They let us watch violence but they won't let us see Mickey Rooney's butt. They made the violence statement using - nonetheless - The Bible.

Let's here it for Homer!!!!!!

1. American Dad, while very very similar to Family Guy, was

very good at skewering the right as well...

2. There is a Climate of Fear...
...that KILLS creativity. I'll bet you a (hypothetical) nickle that there are going to be right wingers pissing and moaning about the spoof of the "wardrobe malfunction" in the dot-com ad.

It also wouldn't surprise me to hear them complain about the girl from "Black-eyed Peas" who shook her buns in the pre-game show, especially given the unforgivable (in the right winger's myopic eyes) blackness of their set.

6. Yeah, the caddy commercial with the car as a bullet
I was surprised by that, given the war climate and all.

4. The one that made fun of the FCC was absolute GOLD
I think it was by godaddy.com. It was basically set up like a CSPAN broadcast and they were having some kind of hearings. A scantily clad woman speaks and accidentally breaks a strap. The commissioners nearly have a heart attack.

I thought that was creative.

I thought "you're getting robbed" was okay, but on the whole they were only mildly entertaining.

11. I turned the Simpson's off 5 minutes into the program
Something I don't think I've ever done on an original episode.

One of the biggest mistakes in recent years was turning Ned Flanders into a raving Freeper-type Christian since part of show's dynamic has always included having Homer's dissatisfaction with his own circumstances bump up against Ned's perpetually happy take on life.

Now, Ned has became as boorish and angry over his particular issues as Homer.

I don't expect continuity in a cartoon but the writers have practically re-written the characters essential personalities and have destroyed the foundations of what made the show work in the first place.
