Infantile, moronic, not in the slightest bit challenging for the performer. The fact he commands big bucks for his dreck epitomizes whats fucked up about this country.

Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 08:28 PM by blondeatlast
Many, many fond memories. We lived in the Highland Park area.

St. Mary Corwin Hospital is largely responsible for my still being here after a dreadful diabetic coma at age 7 (I suppose it's no longer St Mary Corwin, though).

Edit: checked your profile (I can be taught!) How is my cool little burg these days? Steel mills still operating?

47. The Old CF&I Steel Mill is Still There
But now it's called the Rocky Mountain Steel mill, and is owned by Oregon Steel. They locked out all the union steel workers a few years ago and brought in scabs. The union fought it - it went through the courts, and the union WON!!!!

The Princess and I moved to Pueblo in 1995 when I got a job with QualMed, which is no longer here. We originally rented a house on Pine Street, not far from St. Mary Corwin. It's still here, now part of Centura Health. They're currently expanding the place.

The biggest thing to come to Pueblo is the Riverwalk, where they restored an old section of the Arkansas River down by City Hall. And there's a Convention Center down there, too.

25. To make a case of that you need to define

what 'his own self interests' are

People perform acts of good will because of the emotional rewards they get from them, either directly and essentially or because they derive something else (money, power, fame, etc.) that makes them feel good.

What are you claiming he gets from it and how is that different from other 'do-gooders' ?

David Spade, Joe Piscipo...what other SNL regulars who had a few good moments on SNL but not enough talent to sustain a career. Spade has landed on a couple of sitcoms...but he just does recycled SNL schtick. And if you ever see Carvey as "himself" on a talk show, he's about as funny as that friend who's always emailing you those hilarious jokes about the differences between men and women.

93. I went to a taping once of one of Hope's NBC specials,
Those were always awful - not funny, very forced tired, hard to take, BUT we were very surprised to see him when those cameras were not rolling. He was hilarious! Spontaneous, bawdy, free flowing humor. The minute he went back to the scripts, it was the same old crap. The camera light would go out, and he would slay us again. This was about twenty years ago, when they invited the Tonight Show audience to go to Hope's taping after Carson. It was a treat. And free, too.

Evidently I'm one of the few gay women on the face of the planet who is not amused by her More-Neurotic-Than-Thou routine.

But then, I fail to see the humor in that entire genre of comedians that appears based on extreme dysfunctional behavior: Ellen, Seinfeld, Friends, etc. They put my teeth on edge.

45. about 15 years ago my husband and i were in Hawaii
and we went down to eat breakfast and Pauly shore sat right next to us, he was with his girlfriend, a porn star that later went on to kill herself, anyway, i wasn't a Pauly fan and neither was my husband so we just went along eating when he got up and asked us if we wanted his autograph or to take a picture with him, we politely declined and he started getting huffy and swearing at us...."Do you know who i am?!"...."Yes we do" and then his girlfriend grabbed him and told him he was making an ass of himself.

46. Arj Barker.
Have you ever heard of this unfunny hack?? He used to host Comedy Central's Battlebots. Had a "Comedy Central Presents" stand-up special that could make coma victims fall into total death.

Completely unfunny.

So overrated. Wasn't impressed with either Elf or Anchorman. His message from White House West, however, was funny.

94. I've watched his show quite a bit, and for the most part don't find
him funny. ANd now it's worse, less funny all the time. I don't understand why NBC is giving him the Tonight Show when Leno quits, unless they are just sick of doing the show at all.

85. Charlie Chaplin
Gassing people in street light fixtures never struck me as funny. I also don't get the humor of Buster Keaton but he did some amazing stunts.
Laurel and Hardy consistently funny save for the last decade. The last several films of the Marx Bros. also jumped the shark. Groucho said they only made them to pay Chico's big gambling debts.
W.C. Fields funny. Burns & Allen, were they really funny beyond the "Say Goodnight, Gracie" routine? And I thought Dennis Day and Rochester were funnier than Jack Benny (though he caused me some chuckles now and then.) I think we missed a lot by not seeing any of these people in live vaudeville when they were a lot younger.

He was pretty damn funny in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, although his foil (the guy who played Carlton) is often actually much funnier.
