7. It's a little terrifying that "our" government would do this.

You can take any U.S. President in history and find some proportion of "reality" and some proportion of "snake oil." I don't care if it's Abe Lincoln, JFK, or George W. Bush. Every one of them ran some kind of "public relations" campaign.

It's just a little frightening to realize that the lie has BECOME "the reality," that there's no fun or sport in telling the lie anymore so Bush just goes through the motions. He shows up with his PowerPoint slides, waves his arms like Furious George, has his photo taken with a few kids or persons of color, and heads on back to the pig farm.

Then Fox, CNN, MSNBC and the rest tell us of the "progress" we're making, about the jobs we've added, then finish it off with a poll about how a majority of Americans feel more confident than they have in decades.

And people buy it.
