7. Nope
ex-military. Grenada, Central America, Iran-Iraq War. Kinda funny how you hear the bullet but not the sound of the discharge so much. It ain't like the movies.

4. In the line of fire twice, but they were shooting at someone else
I grew up in a neighborhood that had a lot of gang activity. After I moved away, it took me about 15 years to lose the unconscious feeling that standing in front of a window was a dangerous thing.

8. on the highway.. here a thwack... something hit the car..
a dang orange paintball on the 280.

Wasn't driving aggressively or sluggishly - so didn't view it as a road rage thing - more an adolescent idiot thing.

Boyfriends friend got into an argument with some local thugs. They stabbed his friend, then we got him in our car, they chased our car down and shot at us but missed. One of the scariest things ever

11. Yes, By a Crazed Sniper
It was during a rare excursion to the Lloyd Center, a large open-air mall in Portland, Oregon, sometime in 1977 (I think). As I was getting out of my car, a cop yelled at me to get down. I heard a gunshot, and I heard a bullet ricochet off the pavement VERY close to me. I hunkered down behind a pickup truck for what seemed a very long time until cops apprehended the nutcase. I hadn't thought about this for quite a while, but the title of this thread brought it all back to me.

12. I had a cop draw on me once.
He pulled me over, and I was reaching for my insurance card in the glove box, he pulled out his gun, pointed it my face and screamed "Don't move!"

I didn't really blame him, in retrospect, as I had a pistol case full of microphones in the passenger seat. He saw me reaching that direction and kinda freaked out. After I showed him the mics, he suggested that I should keep them in the trunk. Good advice.

BTW, pistol cases are a good cheap way to keep your mics from getting banged around. - PSA

13. yes, twice, once while dear hunting. i stopped hunting that very day
as a teenager a guy shot at me with a shotgun and hit me with several pellets in my arm and side. then while hunting with a buddy. we were picking up a deer trail in the bottom of a ravine when we got shot at from the ridge above us. we screamed out, throw our orange hats in the air and the son of a bitch fired off several more rounds and hit a tree within 15 feet of us. if i had caught the guy i would have shot him dead for it.

i walked out od the forest that day thankful for my like and never hunted again.

my father has a gunshot would from the korean war, my mom has one from being shot on the line as a cop and my step dad too from being shot at while an ATF agent.

the entire family is a bullet magnet.

17. You shouldn't hunt for "dears"
They tend to not want to put out after having a rifle trained on them.

19. How about an option for
"almost or could have been shot at?" I was robbed at gunpoint 18 months ago; while he didn't actually shoot me, he jammed the gun in my side and then moved it to my neck when demanding my PIN# after getting my card. He may not have shot me, but the look in his eyes, (or, rather, the lack of any human look in his eyes, I should say) told me in an instant that he would have thought absolutely nothing at all of shooting me, it would have been nothing for him to do so.

It was the most overwhelming frightening, most all-consuming fear and panicky ten minutes I've ever experienced in my life. I still haven't gotten over that yet, not sure I ever will.

Have no idea how or where the bullet ricocheted to whine past my ear, but it most surely did. And frankly, the son is lucky he's alive... and I didn't have a gun.

23. Well..
...my choice would "yes"but I don't live dangerously.

But I can tell you this, I went to 7-11 near here in Deerfield Beach FL.

The front lot was full so parked along the side wall of the store.

I was walking to my car with my stuff in my hand, and then I heard what I thought was a firecracker going off across the street, but at the same time, a sound like a bug or something whizzed by me and some plaster chipped off the wall to my right.

So, I am confused at first and I look around on the ground and I see what looks like a tiny piece of soft lead, not in the shape of a bullet, possibly a fragment, I picked it up and it was hot to the touch.

I am thinking someone took a pot shot at me maybe? I don't have any enemies that I know of. I try to be as nice as possible to everyone I meet.

Why somebody would do that is beyond me, if that's indeed what it was.

Heyo

26. Yeah, but I was in Baghdad, so it doesn't count.
Actually I've lived a safe life and didn't experience hostile fire until I was over 50. Then, in the course of 6 months I got fired at with small arms fire, rifle grenade, and SAM (at the plane I was riding).

But my employer insisted that it wasn't a war zone, because the war part of the "Mission" had been "Accomplished" several days before I arrived.

I didn't like it a bit. I don't recommend it for anyone

27. I was drunk and at a strip bar....
Go figure, no one ever gets shot at or hit in that kind of circumstance.....

I passed out at the bar and the guy whose girl friend was dancing on te stage across the bar from me let go with a couple of rounds and yelled out no one sleeps while my chick dances....

I was a college kid in a really hard part of Cleveland.

Did I stop drinking or learn a lesson....

Not for another 5 years......

30. A college acquaintance
Had too much bad acid or speed and was armed with a pistol, trying to track me down since he had come to the quite erroneous conclusion that I was a member of the Maoist Progressive Labor Party and needed to be eliminated. (I was actually in the opposing SDS faction.) His family intercepted him and he was locked away for awhile until he reverted to something like his old self. I didn't know until sometime later that he had been a genuine menace. I have not spoken to him since (36 years) for obvious reasons.

31. As a child, I delivered newspapers
I threw a paper up to this yard, and then felt a sting in the back of my leg. Someone had shot me in the calf of my leg! I was so scared!

Found out later that they had also shot a second time. That bullet grazed the back of my head. My leg hurt so bad, that I didn't even feel that one.

33. About 15 years ago, I was the victim of road rage
I was driving down a busy street in Miami with a few friends. I switched lanes and my gear got caught in neutral, which meant that I suddenly slowed down, forcing the guy behind me to slow down as well.
He didn't like it so he cut in front of me and started hitting his brakes. I tried getting around him but he kept pinning me.
When we got to the stoplight, I was to his right, cause I was going to make an immediate right onto the expressway.
My friends and I started cussing him out. He cussed us out. The light turned green and as I drove away, I heard a loud explosion. Then I felt something whiz by my face and felt something hit my face, which turned out to be glass from the speedometer. The bullet had gone through the speedometer and bounced around my engine.
None of us were hit. He got away. The next day, we all bought guns.
