Poll question: Who is your favorite female lead singer?
Let's limit this to women known for fronting a BAND. No solo artists this time. Sorry Bonnie, Patsy and Sheryl etc. :-)

I vote for Chrissie myself. I'd also write in Margo Timmins but since she's not really well known I left her out of the poll.

Vote AND feel free to write in your own.

1. However to choose?
I love them all!

Though my first thought was Chrissie Hynde, I went with Annie Lennox, because it seeing her in an early video that spurred by mother to exclaim "Good God, that woman is built like a brick shithouse," which was my introduction to the phrase.

14. Yeah
the list is very "white" but I was going for well known lead singers so more people could relate and would be able to vote. I even thought about including say, Diana Ross and Tina Turner but I really wanted there to be a strong "band" tie in. That's another reason why I asked for the write-ins. Someday we should do a favorite "obscure" female lead singers poll and you should definitely contribute! You seem to be extremely up on things!

10. I Voted For Ann Wilson, But. . .
. . .Chrissie is the coolest overall. I also like Annie Lennox a lot as well, for the overall cool. But i think Ann has the best voice and power to burn. Just that the later material was not as good as the early Heart stuff. They got a little sappy.

If i hadn't voted for Ann, i would have chosen Shirley.

Natalie actually came closer to making the list though, as everyone knows her. She's a great live performer! I've seen her many times. There is someone posing as her in 10,000 Maniacs now. She's doing her impersonation of Natalie but she doesn't even come close.

Once Spector got done puking all over the song with his grotesque overproduction, i don't know how you could tell if Darlene was great or not.

He had some very talented people working with him, and IMO, ruined almost everything he ever touched.

Dreadful production work. For this, he's considered by some a genius.

Go figure.

60. What about Linda Ronstadt?
She fronted a band, the Stone Cold Ponies in the 60s, before she became a solo artist. That woman had the best pop music voice I've ever heard. She could sing opera! I saw her once on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest singing light opera. Add Linda Ronstadt to your list and she gets my vote.

76. I didn't forget Grace
Look again.

True, Janis probably should have been included but there were, after all, only 10 spots. That's why I asked for write-ins. I think you are the first person to write her in (I'd have to go look back to be sure) but if that's the case, then my decision not to include her may have been valid.

78. I would have preferred Susanna Hoffs, but..

I couldn't resist Annie. She could be evocative while reading an encyclopedia.

83. I agree
on Annie and I love her new CD too! I was thinking the same thing - the songs don't even have to be so great, her voice is the thing! It is nice that she writes her own stuff though.

79. G'Evening SouixJ...
I had to go with Grace Slick, (being the old goomer I am).
The raw power and range, plus the quality of that voice just take
me straight into heaven. And when those eyes hit me, I'm in :loveya:

She may not be as beautiful as you are, but then again, I don't know if you can sing!

everywhere ;-). You're very sweet :loveya: . You just like me cuz I'm half Russian though - I know the truth ;-) .

Grace still kicks ass! I love her attitude too. Always the rebel!

81. Linda's incredible!

She didn't write much at all, but she made covers into definitive versions. She's that good! There are some who are very hard to choose from. I can choose my male singer more easily.

86. I was wondering where you were
it's about time ;-) :hi: I saw Stevie about 2 years ago with Sheryl Crow, Natalie Maines, Don Henley, Mick and Lindsey. Lindsey was a surprise. It was in her home town - Phoenix. She does a lot of benefits there for the Heart Association. Great show!
