I don't think that I can take it. It took so long to bake it. And I'll never have that recipe again.

6. A number of years ago on a very rainy July 4 in Chicago....

I went with friends of mine, their kids, their kids' significant others, etc., out to dinner. We were a largeish group. Went to some Mexican restaurant on Lincoln, down towards Fullerton. Cannot at the moment remember the name of the place...very atmospheric though, loved many of the design features.

Anyway, my friend had a big flat cake made with a July 4 theme -- this was more than 10 years ago so we still felt something.

The damn cake got a tad rained on as we hauled it into the restaurant from where we had parked. It was really coming down hard.

When the hostess brought the cake over to be served after we had eaten, she somehow got the idea it was my birthday and started singing happy birthday to me....

:shrug:

We kept explaining to her that it was the country's birthday, but she persisted. Anyway, we ended up singing McArthur Park to the somewhat soggy cake. Then headed up to the fireworks in Evanston in the pouring rain. A rather quirky July 4, LOL, but lots of fun.
