Has anyone seen "Friday night lights"
with Billy Bob Thornton? My friend dropped it by my house today.

1. no
What's it about?

I'm afraid my favorite BB Thornton movie is Bad Santa.

I thought Monster's Ball and -- argh, forgetting the name -- that well-regarded black and white movie were both embarrassing. Not because of the acting, but because the stories were kind of negative and ugly.

I mean, OK, Bad Santa is negative and ugly too but in a funny way.

Oh wait-- I think Sling Blade was pretty good, wasn't that him? And not so negative, although very sad.

But I'll still put Bad Santa as my favorite for now.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

3. It's about....
how high school football is a RELIGION in Texas. Especially the Odessa Permian area.

When I was in high school, these guys won the state championship every year.

If you're into football, see it. If you hate football, like me, you have no desire to see it.

5. I refuse to watch stupid football movies
Although, I did just watch Tony Danza in 'The Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon'. Cute movie.

11. Here's a couple reasons:
1) Football completely bores me (hey, it's a personal opinion... nothing against football fans).
2) Inspirational sports movies are one of the lowest things on my list.

Again, nothing against sports fans or anything, but it's the kind of movie that I personally consider completely uninteresting.

9. Please do. My high school was one of the towns/schools
considered for the book.

My HS has won the most State titles in Connecticut and the town is one of those blue-collar, lower-to-middle class towns where sports, especially football, is huge.

17. A fairly decent movie...
I think the fact that it's a true story (with some artistic license, of course) made it all the more interesting to me.

18. Pretty good movie; Excellent book
The movie is very well-done, but the book was extraordinary. Billy Bob is great as the coach, Tim McGraw is good, and the actor who plays Boobie Miles is great.

But the book is simply fantastic.

20. it was very well made, but it was problematic racially
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 12:52 PM by fishwax
due to some editing decisions that (as I understand it) were probably prompted by the filmmakers desire to procure the rights to film in the actual Odessa-Permian stadium, and the town council's unwillingness to cooperate if the filmmakers were going to make the town look as racist as the book made them look.
