I HATE BARRY BONDS!!!!
This man has no respect for history.

First he disses The Babe with:
And if it does happen, the only number I care about is Babe Ruth's. Because as a left-handed hitter, I wiped him out. That's it. And in the baseball world, Babe Ruth's everything, right? I got his slugging percentage and I'll take his home runs and that's it. Don't talk about him no more."

Because apparantley numbers are the only thing that make a player great. Of course he knows his limitations as he dismisses Hank Aaron's record.

"755 isn't the number that's always caught my eye." Well, Barry, that's because you can't reach it. Even if you become a DH.

1. The arrogance of most ballplayers is reprehensible
I got tired of them a long, long time ago. I tried to stay in touch with professional baseball because my granddad loved it, but can't do it anymore. I'll take the Isotopes any day of the week.

2. Barry makes an odd comparison.
When Ruth played, he hit more home runs than entire teams. Bonds's home run numbers have been inflated greatly by the lively ball that's been in baseball the last five years. If Bonds were as high above the rest of the league as Ruth was during his time, Bonds should be hitting about 150 home runs a year. Oh, yeah, and Ruth could have gone to the Hall of Fame as a pitcher if he had stuck with it. Bonds might be one of the ten best baseball players ever, but there's quite a cliff between Ruth and everyone else.

3. He's a creep of the highest order
didn't have to participate in the home run hitting contest because he's "a grown man." Well then - grow up and get a real job bucko.

4. Yer just mad because it's true
Bonds will break Aaron's record two seasons from now. He'll break Ruth's next. Ruth was just as much an asshole as Bonds, so what's the big deal?

5. When Bonds wins 94 games as a pitcher...
with a 2.25 lifetime ERA then you could say he's the greatest.

6. Bonds has a way to go yet .
Ruth played in an era with much better all around players in Giant Ballparks, Aaron played in a more diluted era but still in big ballparks.

some of the modern Smallparks have 365' power alleys. Combine that with weight training and Legal Supplements (not to mention illegal ones) and about half of the strikezone called for in the Rulebooks and you have a game skewed towards offense.

Bonds may be the Greatest hitter in the modern era but he has a ways to go to get to Aaron and Ruth.

7. First of all, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays
are BOTH better than Babe Ruth.

Second of all, Barry, just shut the fuck up.

8. Well put, DrG!
Barry's story has become tiresome. At least Sosa was likeable, even with a corked bat ...

11. With all due respects..
to Aaron and Mays, they're not quite up to Mr. Ruth. Mays and Aaron played in an era where they had longer seasons and home runs weren't so hard to come by. Ruth would commonly have 30-40 more home runs than his cloest competitor. He also won nearly 100 games as a pitcher..that's like a player in football being able to play offensive line and wide receiver. Nobody in any sport to date has matched Ruth's accomplishments for their era.

9. too bad he doesnt kneel
to the diety of the Babe. Big deal, he will break Ruths record easily and if he becomes a DH he will break Aarons 755 eventually. I always wonder why people single Bonds out of all the other jerks in the Major leagues. And he is a better hitter than Bonds, throwing Ruths pitcher numbers in the mix is not being discussed.

10. If the Babe had those 5 or 6 years to be a hitter...
he'd have at least 800 home runs, maybe 900.
