For other sports fans.
Do you find it hard to get enjoyment out of your team doing well when the world is so screwed up? I do. I'm an LSU fan and the football team is having a good season, but it's hard to care when the world is so screwed up. Even the enjoyment I received from watching baseball today is muted by Israel's idiocy in attacking Syria and the thought that an actor is about to become governor of the largest state in the union.

I so want to be a working-class slob and dwell in my athletic escapism, but it's so very hard to do when everything I believe in philosophically and politically is being trampled.

1. Israel attacking Syria...
..an actor as governor of California. It's 1967 all over again! Seriously, if you let these idiots spoil your enjoyment of life's pleasures, then the terrorists (in the White House) have won.

2. Everything is worse with a Republican in the White House
Dead serious, especially with daily agonizing disbelief of the realities of Election 2000, and everything that outcome has altered.

My job is more tedious and less rewarding, sex life more infrequent, golf game much more sideways, the dog shits in the house more, and even when my favorite teams win the thrill or satisfaction only lasts until I flip to one of the cable channels and behold runaway crap from a Chris Matthews or Tim Russert, etc.

Somehow my 'Canes managed to sidestep the Clinton years completely, in regard in their 5 national championships of '83, '87, '89, '91 and '01. I can't even imagine the mind-at-ease euphoria of a title during a Democratic administration. When I was a youngster, my 'Dolphins captured their two Super Bowls during the Nixon years.
