1. Change
No caps at 85K earnings and it will be solvent into the next century

4. What isn't fair about it?
Were it not for the tax cuts for the upper 1% of income earners there would be no red ink and no crisis.

5. hrm...
Sorta true...

... but I wish that it were solvent and fair in all respects.... everyone paying the same percentage of their income. but, I'm no numbers guy. that is just what seems right.

Wouldn't it be nice if a strong majority of Americans believed that the systems of our government were fair... even better HONEST!?

6. But they aren't...if one makes 200,000 and gets capped at 85K
then they are paying a MUCH smaller percentage of their income than someone who makes 50K and doesn't max out.

Social security is probably THE most effective gov't program ever...BTW...Roosevelt wanted to invest SOME of it in the market and the Repubs screamed SOCIALISM which is WHY it ended up being insured in the form of gov't bonds

7. How about...
- doing the private accounts (seems good, right?) with a 5 year fade up to 50% of witholdings

and

- removing the cap entirely from the income witholdings

???

8. People have the option of private accounts now
They are called 401K's

I am not for George Bush ENRONIZING my earnings over time so that when I retire they can be WALMARTIZED and I can eat dog food thanks to the fact that he PIRATIZED Social Security.

14. You should look into getting an IRA account.
You won't get the matching funds but it would be something for your future.

11. Social security accounts ARE private accounts
the cheney bush junta is just trying to dazzle everyone with their bullshit again. They call this new method "Private Accounts" to make the 'think for me' crowd assume their SS acct isn't already private, and that lack of 'privacy' endangers their shit.

I hate these people. And I'm with you NSMA.

12. My social security annual statement said
that congress can alter the benefits I'll receive at any time.... doesn't sound very PRIVATE to me.

sounds like the gov has control & by the time Im' there there 'might' be funds available.
