SNL fans - have you noticed
At first I thought Will Forte's George Bush was a far second to Will Farrell's, but that was until I heard him do his particularly whiny impression (but it's hard work"

Now, all I can hear the real Smirking Chimp speaks is the whininess and petulence in his voice. Kudos to Will Forte for capturing that!

1. There have been some marked improvements in the show this season
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 07:37 PM by LisaM
I've actually laughed at a number of skits.

On edit - should have been "marked", not "market."

4. I disagree
I like Forte's Bush almost as much as Ferrell's

He also does a DAMN hilarious Zell Miller.

He's by far the most talented guy in the cast, and he trails only Amy Poehler over all.

6. But he's got the whiney, sulky quality down pat
I also love Fred Armisted's parrot skit.

And I don't miss stupid Jimmy Fallon. It made me want to throw things at the TV when he and Horatio Sanz would start cracking up in the middle of some lame skit. They were like two little junior high kids. Bleck.

7. I always thought it was Tina Fey who was responsible for the potty humor
since she was the head writer, but it must have been Fallon. Good riddance if that was the case. It was like seeing one joke for 90 minutes - vomit, blood, poop, vomit, blood, poop. So NOT funny.

8. I loved Jimmy Fallon!

I just thought he was funny in a silly kind of way. His humor or any of his skits were far from groundbreaking but he always made me chuckle when he was on.

9. Darrell Hammond is still around though!
His Chris Matthews is SCARY! Dead-on!

I don't miss Fallon. Amy Pohler (sp?) has taken a bigger role, and she's really coming into her own.

10. I like Forte's whininess and petulance A LOT. But still like Ferrell's.
Overall, I'd go with Ferrell's, even though he's too tall.

But the "hard work" is a RIOT. Always makes me smile.

I really, really enjoyed the "Dollar" skit with Amy Poehler. I think that was my favorite of the new season.

13. Ferrell did a good job on the "defensive" and "panicked" Bush
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 09:13 PM by Lisa
Really got that mean-spirited side of him, though he always has been good at playing bullies or incompetent authority figures! Somehow he made him appear small -- for me anyway, the height difference only showed up when he was next to Darrell Hammond (or Dana Carvey, in the "Poppy and Junior go hunting" sketch).

Forte's version is more whiny than sneering. But yeah, that "hard work" bit was perfect. I think he's been doing a lot of practice behind the scenes -- his gestures and facial expressions have improved noticeably, since his first time (when he played Bush at Yale, meeting Kerry and the Clintons?).

The accent still isn't a match, but then again, most people who play Bush on TV (including Timothy Bottoms and that guy on Leno's show) haven't quite gotten it either.
