WorldNetDaily: Women told, 'Work in brothel, or else' - lose unemployment
A provision in the German welfare system is forcing out-of-work women to chose between taking jobs in the sex industry or losing their unemployment benefits.

Once one of the most generous systems in Europe, Germany's unemployment program has been reformed to require those out of work to take jobs for which they are qualified, or lose benefits. In the case of women, females below the age of 55 who have been out of work for a year or more must take any available job offered.

The full legalization of prostitution two years ago – with brothel owners now paying taxes and employee health insurance – has created an awkward situation at German job centers where employers can access the official government database of those seeking work, reports the London Telegraph.

---snip---

Now that prostitution is no longer considered by the law to be immoral, there is really nothing but the goodwill of the job centers to stop them from pushing women into jobs they don't want to do."

2. The mind reels at the potential number of bawdy double entendres. . .
Bring in some men to "staff the position" because half staffing isn't good enough.

This should help the industry face its "stiff competition."

What "position" will the women take--missionary or doggie?

But I digress--WELCOME TO DU, INTREPID!!

5. I do too,
But, who knows. It also shows up in the Sydney Morning Herald, no idea about how reputable either of those sources are. I'm off to check Spiegel.de...

6. It sounds like it might be a legitimate loophole, but the scare-tactic
of the article is definitely suspect. They'll be modifying those laws quicker than this thread dies. It's not as if they mentioned any woman actually being forced into the choice, just that the legal loophole is there for unemployment agencies. First one that tries it is going to have a nice, fat lawsuit on their hands.

4. Don't they have no sexual discrimination laws in Germany? If the
brothel worker position is open, then men should be considered for them as well as women. If equally "qualified" men are sent to apply for the positions, but none are hired, then they have a case for a sexual discrimination suit. :o

7. Look at the Source
world nut daily? I'd take this with a grain of salt the size of Gilbralter. World Nut Daily would love any story, real or not, that made a European welfare system look bad.
