a funny little story for you smokers (like me)
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 06:23 AM by burythehatchet
On Friday night we got hit with a combination of snow, ice, sleet and freezing rain. I was not aware of the atmosphereic conditions when I smoked a cigarette, my last, that evening. Saturday morning came the realization that I was not going to get out of my driveway, I had no smokes, and I had emptied out the half smoked ones into the trash.

So I went without a cigarette on Saturday.

A little background here. I'm not a heavy smoker, 4 or 5 a day. I had quit once for almost 2 years about 5 years ago.

Saturday night I fell asleep unusually quickly, at about 9 PM I think. I slept rather soundly. I woke up feeling incredibly refreshed at 3:45 Am. Since that time, I have vacuumed, dusted, done dishes, fed the dog, wrote 3 e-mails, posted 20 messages on DU, broke a candleholder because I was trying to make a recycled candle on the gas stove, cleaned that mess up, made a terrific apple and ginger juice, and its 6:15.

I forgot what smoking does to my body.

Day 2 begins now.

1. Only 4 or 5 a day?
That's not bad. Well, that is to say that you are not seriously addicted and are smoking the way smoking was intended. It was never meant to be an every 10 minute addiction. If you can maintain that it's no big deal but walking away from it entirely is probably the best bet overall.

2. well let's just say there are good days and bad days
a bad day is like 10 or 12. But that's about once every couple of weeks.

I hear you. 4 or 5 is not a lot. But the real eye-opener was how even cutting that out for one day made such a huge difference in energy and vitality.

4. Good for you!
Way to take advantage of an otherwise lousy occurrence. I don't smoke, so I don't know how hard it can be. Keep it up, I know you can do it!

5. Man, if I could smoke only 4 a day
I would still be smoking. I quit about 15 years ago - 2 pack a day habit!

7. YIKES!
2 a day? I don't think I could even do it. When I have a bad day (10) I feel so sick and nauseaus and headache that I usually have to lay off for a day or two. I should consider myself lucky I guess.

6. one or two cigs a day here
I'm down to one or two cigs a day here. Some days I miss altogether. I'm still totally addicted. There are times that I feel like if I can't have my ciggie I will claw someones eyes out. I haven't had a cig since Friday afternoon now. Right now I'm ok.
