I've had a damned cough for about two weeks. Nothing too bad - a lot of people have it here.
Today, the cough got worse. But... NOW when I cough, my throat hurts. Or the area all around my throat - it's not a regular sore throat - swallowing doesn't hurt at all. But coughing really does.
So did I just injure something by coughing too hard or is it a swollen glands kinda thing or what?
I don't wanna go to the doctor... I don't wanna!!!! But I will if I have to....
I think I'll have to. Of course, having a personal physician doesn't mean you can actually get into see him. Looks like I'll be taking a trip to the Urgent Care center. I'd love me some of that codeine cough syrup!
I expect I'll have to. Probably no point in going tonight - no 24-hour pharmacies, but tomorrow morning.... Thanks. I thought it was just a cough that would run its course, but it seems to have grown into something else.
Cough into (and breathe through) a wet washcloth.. hottest water you can tolerate when you wring it out.. The warm moist air breathed in, can ease the spasms that keep you coughing.. and yes, you can "tweak" some muscles or the esophageal tissue from coughing too hard.. You can also irritate the pleura and sternum from super hard coughing spells.
cough medicines with guaifenesin (sp?) are very good for stopping a bad cough in its tracks..
