9. One does question the premise that pain causes thoughts of leaving
Good deeds often go unrewarded, and life's pain oftentimes cannot subside making one consider euthenasia, but it depends on the pain, and the person, and perhaps the religious faith, as to the decisions made.

8. I saw it...
It was mannered and technically well done...good script...

But I did keep reminding myself while watching it...'female boxing?'...having never seen women box...I can't be totally objective.

I have seen GLOW...and I assume their 'script' conferences didn't include washed-out greys, some inter-text about patriarchy and belaboured points about a dying 'art'

I am sure it will win lots of awards...

Oh yeah if you don't like sports movies, you will be bored stiff watching this movie

11. I have a question -- (discusses the twist)
what exactly does a living will do? Can't you elect not to be hooked up to a respirator? Since she was conscious and coherent, couldn't she execute a living will?

Another movie that is getting buzz for best foreign film is "The Sea Inside" which is also about the right to die. Timely subject.

13. Living Wills?
in a sense...volition?

That was necessary dialogue to bring the actor's character to resolution and had little seriousness other than a plot ploy...(notice I didn't say I hated it, but said it was a 'sports' flick)

When I think of boxing I think of Ray 'boom boom' Mancini's fatal fight and if you step into the ring, you might ask those same ponderous questions about 'life' , class , waitressing (a cliche), race, will, security, freedom, the indomintable human spirit and being dead?

I really don't know what the makers were thinking bring the gender angle into this flick...I sincerely dont. Since today's headlines have the same interestas these 'profound' questions...

Female Boxing? The public went for Bush...why not that...

I haven't seen Inside Sea (the Sampedro story), but I assume it as good as Gaby or My Left Foot...

;-)

Indeed she can request such treatment immediately - no need for the living will.
