btw, in Norway there are Christmas "trolls" called julenissen... they play pranks on people unless the owners of the home leave a glass of beer to appease them on Christmas eve.

Each are very old terms; Kobold is more directly Indo-European, and Lamia probably pre-dates the Indo-European invasions, and similar terms are scattered throughout Europe among cultural isolates, from Greece to Bulgaria to Basque Country. Of course, the Lamia weren't quite mischievous; but neither are gnomes, trolls, and other such beings, the further back the legends go.
