Tell me some of your pet's quirky behaviors
I just love talking about mine!

I have a covered litter box and Abbott only puts his backend in the litter box. He's so cute there with his head sticking out of this enclosed litter box doing his duty. Abbott also likes to play hide & go seek with me except he forgets his tail is sticking out.

Evita is just damn quirky. She thinks if you're coming near her to pet her you're going to do something hurtful to her (which is still the Ferral in her). She hates cat toys but loves being brushed!

What are your pets quirky behaviors?

1. If you blow up a balloon (or make the sound like you are)
my dog will run and hide in her house.
:eyes: What a wuss.

2. If my two cats are outside ...
1. If Max sees/hears me coming, when I start to back in, he jumps up on the front hood and climbs to the roof and sits while I park. He then greets me with a loud purr when I open the door.

2. If Max and Penny are out and I walk or ride in another car, I shake my car keys and they come running to me.

3. When my parrot...
Who spends a lot of time out of the cage, has to do her "business", she climbs my leg, gets on my arm and waits to be held over a waste paper basket or toilet. I then ask her if she has to go "poopies". She shakes her head briskly, does her business, then I praise her. She shakes her head again, puffs up, then wants kisses.

Very proud of herself, she is. ;-)

5. My cat Cosmo eats with his paws
I guess it hasn't occurred to him that he doesn't have opposable thumbs. He opens up the claw pads of his paws, sticks his paw in the kibble, then closes the pads thereby trapping some kibble between the pads. Then be brings his paws to his face and eats from his paws.

What a nutcase!

6. Montana is the biscuit making king....
he follows my beau "the commie" around and meows at him to lay down on the couch so that he can get up on him to knead and make biscuits.

SPOOKY is a psychotherapist's wetdream!
He's the midnight yowler.... he will walk around the house yowling all night unless you play him out before you go to bed.

Then the puking thing.... when he has a hairball it shoots one way and he shoots another

14. Kneading....
Abbott is an avid kneader and I keep his claws clipped since his kneeding can hurt after awhile. Just imagine making bread and you how you have to use your hands to knead the bread - that's what cats do except this time the bread is your stomach

7. Hank's got several ...
When I'm getting ready for work every morning, he goes to his basket of toys-n-stuff and brings me his collar - as if he knows it's time for him to 'get dressed' too.

He will not eat until I have sat down for dinner myself, despite how hungry he might be or what's in his food bowl.

After a walk or a hike, HippieDog Hank will head straight to the bath tub, without my even mentioning it. He hates being muddy.

During the summer months when it's warm, I leave my patio door open about 4 inches to let the breeze in (screen is closed), and more than once, he has lifted his leg and aimed out onto the patio rather than peeing in the house.

I :loveya: that dog, I tell ya.

8. My chow...
Jasmine, will roll all over my bed quilt as soon as I go to shower in the evening. If I 'catch' her, she'll run around the house like a tornado. Needless to say, I need a new bedspread since this one has gotten pretty torn up. She also has a special knit rug she rolls in, just for fun, yet not a rip on it--it's held up for 7 years under her abuse. She won't let me sleep in on the weekends and wakes me up around 8am with a series of whines in different tones that sound like she's talking. I end up laughing and unable to get back to sleep.

10. Mine:
Pad Thai: more weirdness than I can even count. When I come home he has to jump into my arms and be put on my shoulder for hugging. When he was smaller he learned that the only way to jump from the floor to my shoulder was to put out his claws, so we worked on that issue (still does that occasionally as punishment when I ignore him) so I would put my hands out and he jumps into them, trusting me to catch him.

The second weird thing is regarding small rolled foil balls. Not only does he fetch them and bring them to me, he also puts them in various places, loves to hide them under the sofa, in the potted plants, food and water bowls, purses, suitcases or bags of visitors.

He also likes to try and catch water with his mouth as it comes out of the faucet. And he runs around the condo after he poops.

This cat is a laugh a minute.

Lily: Lily insists on drinking water from a human's glass. It doesn't matter that she has fresh Brita water every day, she wants yours.

19. Abbott drinks from glasses when he can too
I always have to have a glass of water by my bed when I go to sleep. I now have a bottle of water next to my bed when I woke up and found Abbott drinking out of the water. He's also tried to drink out of glasses with Milk, Soda and wine in them (although I keep a close tab on my glasses would never willingly give him anything other than water to drink).

His passion is empty water bottles. He loves playing with them and hiding them. I once found a dozen empty bottles under my bed from where he stores them

16. Zowie the Ferret
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 10:02 AM by TlalocW
She just passed away on Wednesday but talking about her will be good therapy.

She knew when I sat down at the computer, that I would probably be munching on nuts, and she would come beg for peanuts.

I had a cage that I rarely put her in, but it's where her food and water were, and I would keep a Gatorade bottle of her food on top of the cage. When she wanted me to get up, she would climb the cage and knock it off to make me think that she didn't have food and was hungry so I would get up and go to pour her food, and her dish would be full. Then she would want to play.

She was a climber and would climb the laundry hamper in my bathroom when I was brushing my teeth or shaving to get a better look at what I was doing.

She liked to steal the padded insoles of my jogging shoes and hide them.

Same with my beanbags which I use to juggle. In fact, I had a gig earlier this month, and when I was putting my supplies into my suitcase, I didn't notice that she had sneaked in and dragged away two of my five beanbags until I got to the gig. I watched her carry one in her mouth, and it was all she could do to hold on to it and not tip over while she ran off with it.

I've been missing her lots.

21. My Shi-Tzu, China
China likes to watch television, I mean intently watch it, complete programs. If she sees an animal on the tv, she will come off the couch and try to climb up the wall and into the television in a furious barking fit, especially when she sees horses, but any animal will do.

She knows which commercials have animals and recognizes the music/sounds on them. She will come flying down the hall from the bedroom when she hears the PetsMart commercial fire up and the opening theme to Bonanza on TV Land is sure to get her attention.

It's actually a little freaky...he doesn't just chew them, he gnaws them. (Doesn't seem to be OCD, just occasional.)
