19. They're golden lion tamarins
and they're native to the coastal rainforest of Brazil. GLTs are an endangered species, primarily due to habitat destruction and the exotic pet trade. In US zoos, they're bred and raised with as little human contact as possible, so they can learn to be wild.

In the summer at the National Zoo, a family is released into a free-range exhibit where they can forage and learn to move about in the trees as they would in the rainforest. Volunteers observe and note any unusual activity and record the animals' positions at various intervals of time. They also explain the project to the public and keep visitors from getting too close to the animals.
