I swear...I didn't know the "t" in "often" is silent.

Ever say "Tiajuana" When you meant "Tijuana"? .......I do.

Or "card shark" instead of "card sharp"?
"Heighth" instead of "height"?

Top 100 Mispronounced words:

1. Norm Crosby!
'King of the malaprop, Norm always speaks from his 'diagram' and drinks'decapitated' coffee. His confusing word play and twisted speech has been an audience favorite since his days on The Ed Sullivan Show.'

9. Norm Crosby has a hearing problem.
What registers with him sometimes is not what was said. He just capitalized on it.

5. Funny coincidence that you should post this tonight, when a few hours
ago I was watching our local city council meeting on cable, yelling at the new city attorney, found after endless searching, as she repeatedly mispronounced the word "aesthetically," as "assteticklee." Ah, there is no coincidence, only order in the Universe.

8. I don't often
mispronounce any of these words; nor do I misspell them except intentionally - like using prolly for probably, when I am making a light-hearted post.

I misspell many words when I'm typing fast, and don't use spell-check*; but usually only one or two words at random.

Words fascinated me while growing up, so I learned decent spelling and pronunciation habits.

( But I'll spell-check* this, just to keep from :blush:ing and having to edit. :) )

*DU likes spell-check but not spellcheck.

12. Interesting
I say it as "offen" anyway, but I always thought "ofTen" was so widely used in the vernacular that it had become acceptable.

always says "phantom" instead of "fathom". It drives me insane because she is always the first to try and impress you with her intelligence...or lack thereof. :hi:

20. I've never heard some of those so-called common mispronunciations.
Laura Norder for law and order?
Blessing in the skies for blessing in disguise?
Doggy dog world for dog eat dog world?
Carpool tunnel syndrome for carpal tunnel syndrome?

I have, unfortunately, known people to refer to Alzheimer's disease as Old Timer's disease.

My husband can't seem to break himself of the habit of saying "real-a-tor" instead of "realtor", and I have to say it really grates on my nerves.

I know several people who can't pronounce it correctly. I was surprised at how many I'm guilty of; I've always prided myself on my spelling and pronunciation abilities!
