Captain Kirk or Captain Picard: who's the better captain?
I prefer Kirk - he had a boldness to him. Picard was matter of fact and rule bound. Although I still like him, as a character.

I think the Dem party has to much Picard in it right now. It needs more Kirk.

Dammit Dems this is a political war we're in, not a school picnic!

1. Captain Kirk, because he was not stuffy
and as a character, seemed like he could "flow" with things better. Captain Picard always seemed way too emotionless and repressed to me.

2. Kirk! Kirk! Kirk!
I did find an amusing - but accurate - article, however:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/longterm/movies/videos/startrekgenerationspgkempley_a0a49c.htm

The next generation so rarely finds anything funny, you'd think they were a bunch of Vulcans. Now and then they tell a joke, just to see if the android named Data (Brent Spiner) gets it. But mostly they roam about the cosmos taking each other's emotional temperatures. They even have a ship shrink (Marina Sirtis). A half-human, half-Betazoid with empathic powers, she advises Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) on the crew's mental health -- sometimes on the bridge in the middle of a red alert.

Captain Kirk would never have an empath on board unless he planned to sleep with her. Sure he's a pig -- always was, now that we reflect on the past 30 years -- but in cinematic terms, even piggishness beats staring pensively into a fish tank, as Picard is wont to do. Behaviorally, the new crew members take their cue from the cerebral Picard, who becomes even more morose than usual...

The Dem party hasn't any Picards or Kirks in it. It's got a bunch of Wimpys, Olive Oils, Daffy Ducks, and Yogi Bears in it. :-(

3. Picard could kick ass when he really wanted to
Like say, when the Borg really pissed him off. I prefer Picard, but I have nothing against Kirk. What the Dem party really needs is a Sisko, someone with some serious muscle and is not afraid to kick some ass.

6. Neither. Ivonava,
"Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And, if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out!"

4. You're missing the obvious choice
Neither Kirk or Picard was meant to be a man for all seasons. As for who I'd want leading the Democratic Party right now, that's easy: Spock.

7. Kirk=Bush
Think about. Kirk liked to shoot first and ask questions later. Picard, on the other hand, was more diplomatic, saw multiple solutions to a problem, but he was not afraid to use force when it was necessary. Also, Picard was creative enough to develop the "Picard maneuver". Kirk, like Bush would, cheated on the "Kobayashi-Maru" simulation while he was at Starfleet.

Lastly, If Kirk were to face Q., and thus hold the fate of humanity in his decisions,...well humanity would have lost.

I am a huge dork.

8. wrong..Kirk has little in common with Bush
Kirk had real empathy about him, and he also had an imagination.

I see few similarities.

9. also, Bush would never even be admitted to the Star Fleet Academy
He would have had his dad get him into some kind of reserve unit, and never even leave the solar system.

12. Yeah, he'd be flying shuttles to the Space Station
Until the one time he couldn't pass his drug test and then he'd be busted back to Earth. :)

11. Kirk
He had no problem with one night stands. I can respect that. And he was good. He went all around over the whole galaxy with his Kirk out.

Kirk had too many extra-curricular "going where no man has gone before" whoopee. And if there's anything we don't need is more extra-curricular man-on-alien activities in the WH.

(Oh God, I'm punchy. Good night everybody!)

:hi:

I know, you only saw him act as captain in one movie; but I just know he had the right mix of logic and instinct to be a truly great starship captain.

He coud be a diplomat or a tactician depending on the situation, but he took no shit and made the best of a bad situation. We need that in a leader.
