Need Michael Moore Oscar link!

Does anyone know where I can find a simple explanation for why Moore was not eligible for the Best Documentary? I mean, I know why, but I have office mates who don't believe me and they are getting on my last nerve.

4. The main reason is

that he wanted to release the movie on DVD before the election, and if that happened he would be ineligible for the Best Documentary Oscar (for whatever reason), but still in the running for the Best Picture. So, he just entered it into Best Picture (with absolutely no chance of getting nominated) and took himself out of the running for the Doc. category to put out the DVD.
