A toast to the greatness of Elad

I was very nervous all last week that the software upgrade would be a nightmare. Alas, I was wrong to have worried.

The last 24 hours have gone much more smoothly than I ever expected. The bugs that have been found so far are relatively minor, and are not causing significant problems.

There is EXACTLY ONE REASON why this transition has gone so well, with so few problems:

For the last six months, Elad has been working his tail off, during his spare time, to get this software working. The quality of his work, the depth of his programming knowledge, and his dedication to DU are all incredible. He has done a heroic job.

So, here's to you, Elad. Thanks for everything you do to keep this place running. You are an excellent admin and a great friend.

I must say that I was gobsmacked at the seamlessness of the changeover. I expected the board to be up and down more often than a $3 dollar...errm...you get the drift. Instead, badabing, it works. Considering that few things PHP EVER go this smoothly, it is a testiment to Elad's expertise that a high-traffic site, like this, can be upgraded without an antacid airstrike.

Skinner, I suggest you take Elad out to...Oh say...The Palm. Buy him dinner. Get him drunk. Insult, raucously, every neo-con slimeball you see there. ;-)

I have been involved in many projects like this in the past and I was impressed with how smoothly this went. Believe me, that doesn't happen very often, folks. Beta went very smoothly, I thought, and the transition to 2 was a huge success. This is the best board I've ever been on and it just got better. Thanks, Elad, you must be very proud.
