OUT TO DINNER MATHEMATICS

This is pretty neat how it works out.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST

It takes less than a minute.......

Work this out as you read.

Don't cheat and read the bottom until you've worked through it!


1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10)


2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)



3. Add 5. (for Sunday)



4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator................



5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753.... If you haven't, add 1752.



6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.



You should have a three digit number .




The first digit of this was your original number (I.e., how many times you want to eat out each week.)



The next two numbers are...





YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)


THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND
WHILE IT LASTS. IMPRESSIVE, ISN'T IT?

3. classic math game

Interesting variant of classic parlar game. Here's how this works.

1) Let's represent the nuymber you chose as "x".
Steps 2-4 can be written as:
2) 2*x
3) 2*x + 5
4) (2*x + 5)*50
Step for has two cases let's just assume that you already had your birthday for now.
5) (2*x + 5)*50 + 1753
Let's represent your birthyear as "BY".
6) (2*x + 5)*50 + 1753 - BY

Now if we expand this we get.
7) 2*x*50 + 5*50 + 1753 - BY
8) 100*x + 250 + 1753 - BY
9) 100*x + 2003 - BY
But 2003 - BY is your age, which we will call A.
SO,
10) 100*x + A
Which is the result we were looking for. These are very easy tricks to create. The only reason this only works this year is because of we added 1753 or 1752 in step 5. However next year you can use 1754 or 1753 and get the correct result.

4. Super geek here: this is NOT the only year it will work

Okay so it is the only year it will work with those numbers. But its easily addapted for next year, add 1753 or 1754 instead of 1752 or 1753. If you do the algebrea where x= the number of days you eat out:

2x+5
100x+250
100x+2003
100x+2003-year of birth
100x+age
It doesn't work if your over 99.
