Ugliest. Car. Ever.

According to Ford the Synus concept is aimed at people who lives in urban environments and work in the city.

Ford says that the Synusis compact enough to manoeuvre through congested streets yet bold enough to run with the big dogs at the same time.

The architecture of the Synus comes from the critically acclaimed Ford Fiesta. Smaller than the Ford Focus, Fiesta is what is known as a B-car.

(snip)

Taking its inspiration from bank vaults and armoured cars, this concept's exterior design immediately communicates that it takes security seriously.

But this one is way worse. Is it for real? Could it be satire? (BTW - the other day I saw a Honda Element with vanity plates that said "CARBERT". LOL!)

Has anyone seen the new half car half pickup on the road. The front looks like a PT Cruiser, the back is a small pickup bed. I have no clue what they are but I can't imagine ever driving one.

40. Yup, it's very small
It is actually built on the the Fiesta drivetrain that's still in use in most European markets. It's made for parking in small city spaces, but with maximum interior space. It's also ecologically sound, with the capability to utilize bio-mass fuels. It's really very well designed.

compact, comfort and ease of squeeze.

31. I think it's great
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 09:14 PM by Susang
There are a lot more pictures of it at this site and it was a big hit at the Detroit Auto Show according to my parents.
http://www.wheels24.co.za/Wheels24/2005_Detroit_Motor_Show/0,,1369-1713_1644130,00.html

It's a narrower car and meant for city streets. When it's parked, special shutters come down over the windows and side glass. Considering how many times I've had my radio and even my car stolen, I think that's a pretty interesting idea from a design standpoint.

39. I can't believe how small it is
I know a few people who have been waiting for them to reintroduce the Fiesta drivetrain to the US market.

~snip~
Efficient, Responsive, Fun

Custom, Goodyear P225/50-18 tires wrap the 18-inch wheels. The powertrain of the SYNUS is taken from the Mondeo sedan. The engine is a turbocharged, intercooled 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Duratorq diesel engine with 134 horsepower and a whopping 236 foot-pounds of torque.

In the interest of fuel economy, the diesel is compatible with bio-mass diesel fuel. This mix features 80 percent traditional petroleum-based diesel mixed with 20 percent bio-mass diesel. Bio-mass diesel is a non-toxic biodegradable diesel fuel made from biological sources, such as agricultural products and even recycled restaurant grease.

The concept shares the fun-to-drive Fiesta's MacPherson strut front suspension and semi-independent torsion-beam rear suspension for nimble, confident handling. For increased cornering grip – not to mention style – the SYNUS concept features a wider stance than the production car, and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in P225/50-18 performance tires.
