11. KFC? I love that
:P

I confess the only song I know by them is Dear God, which I love, but I find myself liking the umpteen million covers a bit more than the original these days.

12. Are you kidding?
I have bootleg videos, if you wanna trade....I got a performance in Germany on the "English Settlement" tour where Andy has a panic attack thirty seconds into the first song, "Respectable Street," and has to cancel the rest of the concert.

The soundcheck? "Melt the Guns," of course.

I've also got other live performnaces galore of the mighty XTC on video....and all the albums, too.

So, yes: there are other XTC fans on DU right now.

14. English Settlement is my favorite album...
It is hard to imagine Andy Partridge having a panic attack about being on stage. I watched the movie "Urgh: A Music War" and XTC did the song "Respectable Street." Andy was a madman on stage and seemed to be enjoying himself. It is too bad they never toured again -- I never got to see them.

15. Yeah...it's a real shame how much they changed after that tour.
For one thing, Terry Chambers was one of the greatest drummers to ever walk. ANd having been on the receiving end of mnay a panic attack myself, I'd seek therapy (and spend my life savings) before I'd give up the life of a touring musician.

I feel like XTC really lost a lot of their appeal after "English Settlement," but in certain ways grew into an even more amazing thing....certainly "You're The Wish You Are I Had" or "My Bird Performs" would have been impossible to replicate live, for instance.

That perf is really bizarre, BTW. When the song starts, Andy is mugging for the audience, smiling and dancing to the beat, then as soon as the band hits the second verse, all of a sudden he slumps forward, plays the wrong chord, throws his guitar off and runs offstage. It's like a Jeckyll and Hyde transformation....the band look utterly bewildered. It's a real shame....that perf of "Melt the Guns" is SUPER-tight; XTC would have been unstoppable live had they continued.

13. XTC are the best band ever.
All anyone who doubts that needs to do is listen to "Seagulls Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her", "Complicated Game", "Respectable Street" or "Dear God", to be completely converted.
