What movies should I pick up for the blizzard?
Looking for something to watch while snowed in. My preferences run toward Disney and PG stuff, hubby likes war movies, son likes James Bond.

2. Delicatessin
it just *might* appeal to all your target demographics. It's bizzare and surreal, it's got action and intrigue, and it's funny - in a very weird way.

"corn dog man" is fun, too.

9. For you, friend...

For husband: Breaker Morant, Gallipoli, Henry V (either the Olivier or Branagh version), Paths of Glory

For son: Goldfinger and Goldeneye

For you: The Three Lives of Thomasina, The Parent Trap (the '90s version has a few in-jokes for fans of the '60s version), Homeward Bound and/or any of the classic musical cartoons. If you want to beat them over the head with PG literary adaptations, there are a bunch of Jane Austen films (Emma, Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park and even Clueless) to choose from.

On edit: See Rushmore if you haven't already. It defies classification as a film and really has something for everyone.

You might also like Bon Voyage, which is a recent French film. It's a good, old-fashioned World War II story. Think Casablanca crossed with a little Hitchcock and comedy.

10. "The Butcher Boy" and "Requiem for a Dream"
Just the pair of films for a snowy afternoon! Afterwards, when you're feeling quite disturbed, I suggest large quantities of mulled wine. Really large.

11. Fog of War by Errol Morris - PG 13
War footage for hubby, espionage and deception for your son....and political reality for you.

12. Hmmm...
I'll say the recent "Chronicles of Riddick" is a safe enough bet for all concerned. Your man will like the blasting and fighting. Your son will like the intrigue. Everyone should care for the intelligent dialogue and brilliant visuals, all in service of a very clever sci-fi allegory to Bush's marauding religious imperialism.

PG-13.

13. If You Haven't Seen Them
try Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke by Miyazaki. You won't regret it -- look at some of the reviews.

Not much on war movies, but for action movies, I like Collateral,Executive Decision, and my favorite, Face/Off.

There are a bunch of indie and foreign movies, too, if you can find them. One I liked was a Spanish criminal cat-and-mouse flick (like the Sting), Nine Queens. On the other end of the scale was an Eskimo movie The Fast Runner -- simple, primal and absolutely fascintating -- it's like the book of Genesis. A disturbing but riveting flick about Braziliam teenage drug gangs is The City of God. And one of my all-time favorites is Memento, about someone who can only remember the last few minutes trying to reconstruct his past. Sounds like a cliche, but it's told backwards in time and you have to try to reconstruct with the character what's happening and who's telling the truth. Completely original.

Maybe there's not all what you had in mind for today, but I recommend all of them.
