Who are the best writers/posters here at the DU?
It can't be denied: there are many talented writers here at DU. We are fortunate enough to have journalists who participate. I've learned so much since I jumped on the DU Train. Thanks to the MANY contributors at this awesome web site.

My favorite writers continue to be: Grasswire for his hard-hitting, detailed and behind the facts news. NNNHOLI always has good posts, and SNIPPY has awesome links and info.
Will add to this as I go back & find more. Others?

3. I hate posts like this
So a few people get a pat on the back (no doubt, well deserved). But plenty of people are not mentioned who may have contributed much to this board. So,needless to say, they walk away thinking they are of no value to others on this board.

Listing "favorites" is for kids. I see nothing worthwhile to come of this endeavor.

7. There are a great many exceptional writers here,
many with differing styles. Some have a rare gift for humour. Others have a real talent for clarity as well as a gift for language.

There are too many to name who have varying individual gifts and it would leave out some important and distinguished writers, who, although brilliant, don't post here much or don't garner much attention when they do.

I think I will go by the Chi-fil-a at the mall too. What an ingenious idea-take a bun, put a piece of fried chicken between the buns, and (here's the master stroke) add sliced pickles. An empire is born.

Suchlike is my main target when stealing from other posters here. So much to extraneously express, so little success finding just the right expressive sylalables.

Now if there were just a good way to denote sarcasm without all the sarcasm thingies.

17. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Many, many, too many to single out a few. Thanks to all... we need everyone, not just those who are gifted writers; we need thinkers, comedians, and diversity... yes, diversity. I don't want to hear my own thoughts echoed; I want to learn and laugh and discuss and debate and disagree and maybe even change someone's mind when I happen to be knowledgable about some issue. But I constantly depend on others. Naming a few does a disservice to the many. So, thanks DUers one and all (except the creepy freepers who infiltrate!).

23. Sorry guys, I didn't realize this was a "touchy issue"
this was not meant to be a "Mirror Mirror I declare, who is the most popular writer here?"

I'm continually amazed at how effort some writers put into their posts. They look up facts, they go to links, get the story from the source, and report it for our benefit. They carefully include link after link so we can research for ourselves. I'm way too lazy to do what they do, and I'm STILL more motivated than my lazy neighbors down the street.

SO -- I will change this post to: thank you, hard-working writers who put in the extra 10 miles for us.

PS Underpants, love your posts!

24. We know these threads aren't meant to harm.
But some folks inevitably get hurt by their ommission. Your heart's in the right place, but we've been down this road before with similar posts, and they often end up hurting some folks' feelings.

However, I agree that some folks here really go the extra mile to provide information. That's one of the main reasons I love this place. That and the cookies.

The Asterisk Residency
June 29, 2002
By ZombyWoof

<snip>

The asterisk. No president in our history, no matter how contested the election - whether 1800, 1824, 1876, or 1960, has ever been marked with that subtle little star, that brands their legacy and leaves his legitimacy in doubt. None ever ascended to power through such fraudulent and yet thoroughly American legalistic means. A bloodless coup. 2000 was the first. "Official" history will do all it can to make sure it remains as unblemished as its predecessors. To them, doing otherwise would mean admitting we have failed at our grand experiment. They are likely to succeed in its omission.

The admission of failure is not acceptable. For the rest of us, perfecting a Democracy is messy and difficult, even ungrateful work. An asterisk would be a sign of the experiment's success. It would mean we love our country enough to confront, challenge, and overcome its flaws.

Work for the asterisk. Work for its ideal, if nothing else. History is ours.

Will Pitt is probably the most eloquant writer overall, but he is a professional. ProfessorGAC, Gratutious(?), Grasswire, Khephra, Nothingshocksmeanymore are also good writers. COLiberal is probably the best at one liners.
